Slave Master GrandeReport
English:Slave Master Grande · Characters
The master of Eyesocket and a slaver noble of the Traders Guild. Killing him does not merely remove a villain — it severs the food supply line feeding three towns in the north.
Slave Master Grande is a noble member of the Traders Guild, and at the same time the effective owner of Eyesocket, the slave camp out on the Stormgap Coast.
The retinue
Like the other Traders Guild nobles, Grande lives in a Noble House, with four Hooded Empire Noble Guards and four heavy samurai stationed at the door and inside. Those eight men are the real obstacle — Grande himself is a Smart-personality noble whose numbers fall well short of his bodyguards'.
His attributes all land in the 30 to 50 band (with a random variance of ±10), and his race is itself randomised: he may be a Scorchlander, a Greenlander, a Shek or a Hive Soldier Drone, so different saves will roll a different face and a different set of build bonuses. That is quite rare among named characters.
For equipment he carries a longsword, his armour is Specialist (with a 10% chance of Masterwork), and the weapon comes from either the Catun Scrapmasters or the Skeleton Smiths. What is genuinely valuable is what he carries on him: the advanced first aid kit, the luxury goods and the hashish — luxury goods being high-value trade stock, so pocketing them on the way past is usually worth more than fighting him.
Eyesocket: after he falls
Eyesocket is no ordinary slave market. It is a node on a supply line — one that feeds Brink, Heng and Trader's Edge simultaneously.
Grande's death therefore sets off one of the longest chains of consequence in the game:
- Eyesocket turns straight into ruins.
- If Brink is still under United Cities rule, that town falls into a malnourished state.
- If Grande, Slave Master Haga and Slave Master Ruben are killed or imprisoned together, and Heng is still under United Cities rule, Heng becomes malnourished as well.
- Slaver patrols stop spawning on the Stormgap Coast; and if Tinfist is alive and free at that point, Anti-Slaver jonin begin patrolling the Stormgap Coast.
- If both Grande and Longen are dealt with, slaver patrols in the Grey Desert drop to zero too.
One of the northern slavers
Grande is classed as a member of the northern slave masters and mistresses, a group that also includes Longen, Lady Kana, Slave Master Haga, Slave Master Ruben, Slave Master Wada and Slave Mistress Ren.
The world state for this group is cumulative:
| Condition | Effect |
|---|---|
| Any one of them killed or imprisoned | Anti-Slavers patrols start appearing in Heng |
| All seven dealt with | Slave hunters, manhunters and slaver patrols disappear entirely |
Put another way, Grande is a replaceable part in narrative terms but one seventh of a key in systems terms. Any player who wants to genuinely end slavery in this game will sooner or later have to come back to that Noble House in Eyesocket.
Incidentally
Eyesocket is also the spawn point for several named recruits, among them Headshot and Ray; the unique slave trader Garret may turn up here too. Before setting out to topple Grande, it is worth combing through the town's roster of slaves — once the place becomes ruins, those people are gone.
