Lady KanaReport
English:Lady Kana · Characters
The mistress of Port North and the operator of the largest slave camp in the empire's north. The Meitou wakizashi on her hip is worth thirty thousand Cats; the official bounty on her is zero.
Lady Kana is a noble of the Traders Guild and one of the central figures of the slave-trading bloc. She lives in a Noble's House in Port North, on the northern shore of the Great Desert.
Called a port, run as a quarry
The place name Port North is misleading. There is no harbour business here; what it actually is is a slave camp — stone quarries and processing facilities everywhere, turning out iron plates and building materials to feed the two supply lines running to Bark and Sho-Battai; the town holds three slave shops and two rows of cages. Kana herself calls it the largest "slave farm" there is, and adds that it produces clothing too, which does not match what the buildings actually output.
What she says
Walk up and speak to her and she will complain that your odour has invaded her nostrils, and then say: Dim. Do you know who else is dim? Slaves. Stick 'em in a cage and they'll live in their own droppings like brainless cattle.
The logic of that passage is circular — first cage people until they live like cattle, then use their cattle-like state as the reason for caging them. Her personality is flagged as Maniacal. There is one other detail that surfaces only in tavern small talk: customers from the United Cities often say they envy her complexion.
The blade and the mask
The first is the Meitou Wakizashi, forged by Cross, with a market price of about 31,478 Cats. Only three people in the entire game carry this blade: Kana herself, Slave Mistress Ren, and Grace.
The second is the Mask Type III — a strange facepiece with no visible breathing holes, whose protection is close to that of the Swamp Ninja mask, and which additionally carries Fog Mask-tier weather protection (100% against both dust storms and gas). She is the only NPC in the game who wears one.
Official bounty: zero
The empire will not pay money for one of its own nobles, because she was part of the system to begin with. She holds diplomatic status; pick any hostile option towards her and the guards pounce immediately, and the player picks up a bounty for terrorism on top of it. What is genuinely worth having is her property.
After she falls
She is one of the characters with the widest world-state consequences. Once she is killed or imprisoned:
| Chain | Condition | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Port North destroyed | None | The entire camp becomes ruins |
| Empire Peasants take over Port North | Tengu and Nagata are also dead or imprisoned | The outpost changes hands |
| Sho-Battai falls into famine | Still under United Cities rule | Town enters the malnourished state |
| Bark falls into famine | Wada is also dead | If Sanda is also dead, it passes to the Empire Peasants instead |
| Slave trader and manhunter patrols in the Great Desert decrease | Haga has not already been dealt with first | Either one triggers it; they do not stack |
| Anti-Slaver patrols appear in the Great Desert | Tinfist is still alive | The patrolling party changes |
There is also one that runs the other way: so long as she is alive and free, and Tinfist is killed or imprisoned, the distant Hive villages are trampled into ruins by slave traders.
She belongs to the "Northern Slave Masters" list, alongside Longen, Slave Master Haga, Grande, Ruben, Wada and Ren; clear all seven and manhunter and slave hunter patrols in the Great Desert, Heng, Skimsands and The Eye disappear entirely. She is also the only one among all the Guild nobles to use the title "Lady" rather than "Slave Mistress".
