Cannibal HuntersReport

English:Cannibal Hunters · Factions

A mercenary outfit dedicated to culling the Cannibals — they do not eat people themselves, and they are one of the very few factions in the game that will patch up wounded strangers.

The nightmares never go away. We keep killing but they never go away. — a Cannibal Hunter

The Cannibal Hunters are people who have given the rest of their lives to culling the Cannibals. Their job is to keep the painted tribes penned inside their own territory so that the front line does not move south.

ImportantThey do not eat people. The name describes their prey, not their diet — a distinction the Chinese naming on this site takes some care to preserve.

Who they are

The wiki offers only a guess at their motive: personal grudges and the like. The game supplies no official quest or organisational backstory to explain them. Two characters are the only real evidence.

Cannibal Hunter Robun leads them and is stationed at The Bastion. He is the younger brother of the author of the Captive's Journal Series, and most likely the sole survivor of the events those journals describe — which is to say that this organisation is headed by a man who walked away from a cannibal cookpot.

Mani is a former member, now second in command and Defence Captain of the Flotsam Ninjas. In his own words:

Flotsam's second in command, Defence Captain Mani. I'm an ex-cannibal hunter, made it my life mission to track cannibals ever since I escaped their prisons 10 years ago. My comrades though, they weren't so lucky...

He joined the Flotsam Ninjas only after his entire Cannibal Hunter patrol was wiped out.

The enemy of your enemy, with a first aid kit

The Cannibal Hunters have one very rare behaviour for a Kenshi faction: they will heal any wounded stranger they see.

In a world where most NPCs looking at your unconscious body are weighing up robbery or dinner, that is worth a great deal. A character beaten down in the Cannibal Plains with no squadmates left standing is often saved simply by a Cannibal Hunter patrol wandering past.

Their relation to the Tech Hunters is +100; in the north the two operate as one side of the same line.

Where to find them

Patrols spawn in Cannibal Plains, Hidden Forest, Northern Coast and Sinkuun, in groups of 5 to 7 hunters, or 6 to 9 hunters escorted by 0 to 2 Mountain Dogs.

Camps can appear in Hidden Forest, Northern Coast and Sinkuun.

The Bastion is their only permanent holding, sitting on the border of Darkfinger and Sinkuun, garrisoned by large numbers of hunters plus the elite Cannibal Hunter Captains.

They also turn up in bars near Fishing Village, Hidden Forest and World's End.

Hiring them

Talk to the leader of a roaming patrol and the whole squad can be contracted for a campaign against the cannibals:

ServiceRate
Bodyguard the player3,000 Cats per day
Guard the player's outpost1,500 Cats per day

That is expensive next to most mercenaries, but these are troops built specifically to fight cannibals. For anyone trying to settle north of the Cannibal Plains it is one of the most direct answers available, and far cheaper than raising a squad that can absorb a cannibal swarm on its own.

Mountain Dogs

The Mountain Dog is their signature companion animal, a larger relative of the Bonedog. It does not spawn naturally in the wild and has no nests anywhere — it only appears alongside Cannibal Hunters. Spot one in the north and there is a hunter patrol nearby.
