CrabReport
English:Crab · Creatures
The red crustaceans of the east and south-east coasts. The slowest purchasable animal in the game, and one that hits two targets at once — which is why they belong at your gate, not on your march.
Crabs are large, reddish, crustacean-like creatures that are usually hostile. They are strong fighters and they are extraordinarily slow — those two facts determine everything you can usefully do with one.
Where they live
They mostly roam the coastal regions of the eastern and south-eastern continent: Greenbeach, the Howler Maze, The Pits East, The Unwanted Zone and Fishman Island. The wiki names the best hunting grounds outright: The Pits and The Pits East are prime areas for crabs, and for the Crab Raiders with them.
Their diet is fish, fungi and algae.
Nests and eggs
Crab Nests are randomly spawning animal nests found in Greenbeach, the Howler Maze and The Unwanted Zone. A nest holds 5 to 30 baby crabs at age multipliers of 0.15x–0.4x, so their stats are a fraction of an adult's.
Up to 49 Crab Eggs can be sitting on the ground in one nest.
In a fight
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Base stats (all) | 35 |
| Martial Arts | 3.5 |
| Blood | 66–323 |
| Per body part | 20–218 |
| Movement speed | 6–13 mph |
| Extra attack slots | 1 |
| Self-healing | Yes |
Their damage is Cut = 23 + roughly 0.88–0.91 × (Martial Arts + Dexterity). The 23 comes from the minimum cut damage of 13 plus 10 points of piercing — the same piercing figure as the Blood Spider. Blunt damage is negligible.
The number that matters is that extra attack slot: a crab's attacks are fast, hard, and land on two enemies at once. It does not win by chasing. It wins by standing in the right place.
What this means for you
Meeting one in the wild. Crabs are among the slowest animals in the game. Unless you are cornered or indoors, you can simply walk away. New players die to them in Howler Maze interiors far more often than in the open.
Buying one. Crab Raiders sell them at the Crab Shops in Crab Town and Crab Village for roughly 14,000 Cats per adult. They are the slowest purchasable animal in the game and they eat a great deal, but they attack fast, hit hard and strike two enemies at a time. The conclusion writes itself:
- Bad on the road. A crab cannot keep pace with a squad and will hold up any long march.
- Good on a wall. In a static defence, slowness stops being a flaw; one adult crab in a gateway absorbs a surprising amount of pressure.
- Budget for food. At a hunger rate of 2, a pen of crabs is effectively another field to farm.
As with all animals, their attack reach grows with age.
Bigger relatives
- Elder Crab — a stronger variant spawning at age 1.9x–2.0x, so its base stats are multiplied accordingly. Rarely wanders Greenbeach and The Pits East.
- Megacrab — one individual in the entire game, in the Lost Town.
- Crab Tournament entrants — brought by the Crab Raiders, and stronger again than Elder Crabs.
The Fishman Island exception
Crabs live on Fishman Island too, but until the death of the King Gurgler the Gurglers consistently outnumber them. Once he dies, Gurglers and their nests stop spawning and only crab patrols remain.
Trivia
Crabs share their sound effects with Spiders and Skimmers.
