The only Crimper in the game and the thing the Southern Hive actually worships. He wanders the Royal Valley, and he will come to a prison pole on his own if you put a captive on it — then eat them.
King will protect us, King will be happy with us... — Droneguard
King is what the Southern Hive worships, and the only Crimper in the game.
What he is
A Crimper is a massive maintenance skeleton that resembles a Gorillo — it even shares the Gorillo attack animations and "weapon". Exactly one exists in Kenshi, and it is the Southern Hive's King.
He wanders the Royal Valley with his Droneguards. The Southern Hive's stance towards outsiders is to devour them or sacrifice them to King, and the sacrifice part is not a metaphor.
If you cannot find him
If King is nowhere in the Royal Valley, the wiki gives a blunt workaround: prison poles sit northeast of the Southern Hive; put a prisoner on one and King will come over for a feast.
The same works in reverse — if the Southern Hive imprisons one of your characters, King shows up and starts eating them.
Why he is close to unbeatable
King's base numbers are combat 60 and strength 120, but the number that matters is the age multiplier: spawned on Southern Hive ground he rolls 2.40x–2.50x, which puts his effective skills well over 100.
| Body part | Health |
|---|---|
| Head | 1200 |
| Chest | 900 |
| Stomach | 900 |
| Each arm | 750 |
| Each leg | 450 |
He carries 875 oil, bleeds at only 0.2, and has 2 extra attack slots. The wiki's verdict is short: he is impossible to beat solo without crossbows, micromanagement, or exploit-recruited characters.
There is also a counter-intuitive detail. Crimpers (along with the Gorillo variants and Cleanser Units) have no self-healing, so in theory their wounds degenerate even while conscious — but King's average Toughness of 147 pushes his degeneration value negative, so he actually heals cut damage faster than a self-healing animal, awake.
Fighting him pays badly too: XP from animals uses "stronger opponent" logic based on their stats at age 1.0, so beating on a machine with triple-digit effective skills yields very little.
The one time he is easy
If the player kidnaps the Queen of the South, King joins a Base Assault against the player, alongside a Prince, a War Gorillo and 8 Droneguards.
The catch that matters: that version of King spawns at only 0.90x–1.00x age multiplier — "pathetically easy", in the wiki's words. It is the realistic chance to bring the machine down.
Loot
He drops Armour Plating x4, CPU Unit x4 and Robotics Components x4.
His data also lists an AI Core, but it never actually spawns — his inventory is too small to hold it.
A strange weakness
King and the Hive Queens are the only robotic units in the game with a hunger rate. Put him in a player-owned cage and he will eventually starve to death. The only way to tell he is starving is to watch his stats.
