The Amateur Recruit is a randomly named unique recruit. Fandom's definition of him runs to one sentence: an inexperienced person who anxiously threatens the player for looking at them.

He really cannot do anything
The Amateur Recruit's stat block in the game data is empty — no skill values are set at all, and everything stays at the Greenlander baseline.
The equipment list is equally honest:
- Weapon: one Katana, manufacturer unknown.
- Clothing: a pair of ragged halfpants, and nothing else — a garment with no coverage whatsoever, so armour grading does not even apply to it.
His personality is Fearful. He asks 3,000 Cats.
Where to find him
Guaranteed spawns: Crab Town, Mourn and The Hub.
He also appears in Shark, and does so regardless of which faction currently controls the Swamps — unusual stability in a region where world states change hands constantly.
Depending on world states he may also turn up in Blister Hill, Heft, Heng or Stoat; and less reliably in Black Scratch, Flats Lagoon, the Smugglers Bar, Waystation and Waystation Four, and World's End.
Once recruited he switches to the "Player TOUGH Merc" dialogue package. Which is to say — the moment he joins, the stammering man disappears and he starts talking like every other hired sword.
