MournReport
English:Mourn · Locations
A mining town in the Bonefields broken by a slave rebellion and now nominally held by the Tech Hunters. No gate guards, no power, and harpoon turrets that cannot fire — probably the most vulnerable non-hostile town in the game, with corpses piling up inside its own walls.
Mourn is a major town in the Bonefields, sitting between Catun and Flats Lagoon. The whole settlement is built inside an ancient metal structure whose wreckage looms over the north and south sides of town like a rusted lid. It was once a thriving mining town; a slave rebellion left it in shambles, and it never got back up. Most of its buildings are still ruins, and there is not a single guard at the gates.
For the player, the point of Mourn is not that it is prosperous. The point is that it is the only place in the Bonefields that will not try to kill you — and whether it stays that way depends largely on whether you intervene.

History: a mining town and its rebellion
The barman sums up the town's past in two sentences:
"Old mining town. Weren't so great with their slave control, turns out. But it makes a good shelter for travellers, so long as the wildlife keeps at bay..." — Mourn barman
A slave rebellion reduced a once-thriving mining town to rubble. The physical evidence is still lying around: the mining infrastructure (several ore drills and ore processors) survives, the cages left over from slavery survive, and almost nothing habitable does.
A town with no gate guards
The dangerous thing about Mourn is that its defences exist only as shapes.
- No gate guards. No guard squads spawn at the gates, which means the Bonefields spawn tables pour straight into the town unfiltered.
- The turrets are decoration. There are several harpoon turrets on the walls, but Mourn has no energy-producing structures at all, so none of them can be fired — unless the player buys property here and builds their own power.
- Most buildings are collapsed. The watchtower, the Y-house and an s-IV outpost among them exist mainly in a ruined state.
The result is that Mourn is probably the most vulnerable non-hostile town in all of Kenshi. If nothing is done for it, the place will eventually be overrun and slaughtered by the sheer savagery of the wildlife outside. Even short of that, the inside of its walls tends to be carpeted with bodies on a permanent basis.
What you will meet inside the walls
Because nothing filters the gates, anything that can spawn in the Bonefields can end up in town:
| Type | Contents |
|---|---|
| Wildlife | Beak Things, Bonedogs, Boneyard Wolves, Skin Spiders |
| Patrols | Band of Bones, Gorillo Bandits |
| Edge case | A Leviathan is unlikely to walk in on its own, but one can be lured |
Beak Things are the practical threat: they arrive in numbers, and they eat downed characters where they lie.
What is inside the Abandoned HQ
The Abandoned HQ in the middle of town is locked, and what is locked inside it is the Great White Gorillo — the one unique specimen of the Gorillo family that is larger and stronger than the rest. The first time you walk into the bar, the bartender goes out of his way to warn you: keep the gate locked, and do not go in.
The gate can, of course, be opened. The payoff is considerable; the details are in Gorillo.
Who owns it, and who owns it on paper
Mourn belongs to the Tech Hunters, and there is a Tech Hunter shop in town. But the maps disagree: the Map of the United Cities (Extended Territories) still marks Mourn as part of the Empire, and the cages in town still work for United Cities bounties — drop a character with a UC bounty into a cage and you get paid.
In other words, this is a town the Tech Hunters actually hold and the Empire has never formally let go of.
The people in the bar
The bar is the most content-rich building in town:
- Blue Eyes — the infamous character can be found here.
- Hobbs — one of the recruitable characters; Mourn is one of his possible spawns.
- The barman — besides his line about slaves and wildlife, he is also the one telling you to leave the HQ gate shut.
Practical notes
- Free beds. There are many camp beds scattered inside the walls, and players can use them at no cost — which counts for a lot in a region as short on supply points as the Bonefields.
- But do not look away. Keep watching characters while they rest: they may not wake up in time to defend themselves from being eaten alive by Beak Things.
- If you buy property, think about power. Several buildings are for sale here, mostly collapsed longhouses, outposts and a watchtower. The first thing worth doing after repairs is not a research bench — it is a generator. Once those harpoon turrets have electricity, the town's defensive situation changes category entirely.
- This is a town the player can save. Mourn's condition is not a locked narrative outcome; it is an open variable.
