Notable units
| Name | Type | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gorrillo | Hostile boss | The Old Prison | Chief of the Gorrillo Bandits and built like a Gorillo, carrying one of the highest bounties in the game. He tends to haul knocked-out enemies out of the fort himself, which is your chance to cut him off from the bulk of his followers and ambush him. Each of his Gorrillo Bandits carries a further 5,000 Cats bounty (3% chance) |
| Great White Gorillo | Hostile | The locked, derelict HQ in the dead centre of Mourn | A unique XL-size Gorillo with heavily inflated stats and attack speed. Picking the lock counts as a crime but you will almost never be caught, and killing it yields the unique item Great White Claw. The barman will warn you not to open that door |
| Blue Eyes | Hostile | The bar in Mourn | A United Cities fugitive, easy to pick out because she brags loudly about her own crimes in the bar; the note she wrote, "Blue Eyes' Note", can be picked up in the Swamp |
| Lord Shiro | Hostile boss | The Noble House in Catun | A member of the Noble Circle seated in Catun. Kill him or capture him and the whole of Catun falls to the Fishmen and every building in it is levelled — which means destroying the only intact city in the zone |
| Hobbs | Recruitable | Mourn | A free unique recruit with a small chance of spawning in Mourn (his main spawn is the fishing village on the Northern Coast) |
| Catun Scrapmaster | Merchant | The Catun Scrapmaster workshop in Catun | Claims to be the finest weaponsmith on the continent; this is the only shop that carries "Catun Scrapmaster" branded weapons, with a stock cap of 100 and a 24-hour restock |
History
- Mourn was an Imperial mining city until a slave revolt left half a ruin and a row of harpoon turrets with no power.
- The Catun Scrapmasters are the only foundry outfit still mass-producing weapons in the present day — in a world where good gear has to be dug out of ruins, that on its own is remarkable.
- Once Lord Shiro goes down, the Fishmen swallow Catun whole and every building in it is torn back to rubble.
Building a base here
The channel's verdict: Recommended with caveats
- Other Food upside: for the yield of raw meat and animal skins taken by hunting, almost no region other than the Leviathan Coast can match this one.[V1 0:06:05]
- Defensible terrain The Bonefields is flat ground with only the occasional mesa; the High Bonefields to the north is the more mountainous half.[V1 0:00:32]
- Copper Copper is good quality but particularly hard to find; if you want more than one copper node, head for the High Bonefields to the north rather than staying in the Bonefields.[V1 0:01:05]

- Other The main rival is Shem: flatter, safer and more central, yet with the same fertility grade as the Bonefields — Paul Rogers admits this is the hardest objection to the Bonefields to answer.[V1 0:06:38]
- Raids The main threat is wildlife rather than humanoid factions: most creature spawns here are hostile, and every animal group is larger than it would be elsewhere.[V1 0:01:39]
- Raids The number one threat is Beak Things: nests are common and patrolling packs are scaled up; worse still are the roaming Elder Beak Things, which have no fixed location.[V1 0:04:25]
- Raids Other hostile animals include Skin Spiders, Bonedogs in packs that can exceed 10, and an upgraded wolf type that appears only in this zone.[V1 0:03:18]

- Other Strategic value: a coastal base in the Bonefields or the High Bonefields makes a fine springboard for attacking the Royal Valley or Fishman Island, and puts you closer to the endgame content.[V1 0:07:13]

- Other Difficulty placement: building here is far easier than on Fishman Island and roughly on a par with the Fog Islands; short of stepping into the endgame content, this zone is probably the most dangerous environment in the game.[V1 0:07:45]
