Swamp NinjasReport
English:Swamp Ninjas · Factions
The Swamp's ninja-dressed bandits, locked in a feud with the Red Sabres for longer than anyone records. They rob you, but at least they are picky about it.
And take only what you need. No more junky trinkets clogging our chest! — a Swamp Ninja Genin
The Swamp Ninjas are one of the bandit factions of The Swamp. Their history is essentially unrecorded — the game gives them no origin, only an enemy.
The uniform
Swamp Ninjas are unusually easy to identify for bandits, because they actually have a uniform:
Dyed Rag Shirt, leather Turtleneck, Cargopants and a Swamp Ninja Mask.
They carry Ninja Blades and Guardless Katanas, sometimes a Tooth Pick. A colour scheme is attached to the faction, so their armour and clothing are dyed to a shared palette — in the Swamp's heavy fog, that block of matching colour is the tell.
Their ranks run Genin → Chunin → Jonin, with the boss Shade at the top.
The long feud with the Red Sabres
The only special hostility the Swamp Ninjas carry is toward the Red Sabres, at -100. The two gangs have been hunting each other across the Swamp and the South Wetlands for years, and players regularly walk into a fight already in progress.
Worth noting: their relation to every other Swamp gang — the Hounds, Grayflayers, Stone Rats, Blackshifters, Twinblades and Swampers — is 0, meaning mutual non-interference. In the whole of the Swamp, this is the only pair actually killing each other.
Toward the player they are hostile on approach, with nothing to negotiate.
Territory
Patrols spawn in the South Wetlands and The Swamp.
The Swamp Ninja Base sits in the South Wetlands and is their only holding, housing large numbers of Genin, Chunin and Jonin along with Shade herself.
Shade is a female Scorchlander carrying a Guardless Katana and wearing a Swamp Ninja Mask, in [Standard] armour with a 10% chance of [High], her weapons made by Edgewalkers. Her line says plenty about how she views outsiders:
Attacking like a pack of bloody beasts!
World States
The Swamp Ninjas are the most visibly mobile piece of the Swamp's power structure:
| Condition | Effect |
|---|---|
| Shade killed or imprisoned | Swamp Ninja patrols shrink |
| The Red Sabre Boss killed or imprisoned | Swamp Ninja squads increase, and Jonin start joining patrols |
| Big Grim and Big Al both dead while Shade lives | Stone Rat Village passes to the Swamp Ninjas |
The second row is the one to think about: clearing out their sworn enemy removes the only check on the Swamp Ninjas, and the squads you meet on the road get both larger and stronger. If your goal is a quieter Swamp, the order of operations matters.
