An ex-smuggler Worker Drone soaking in a swamp bar with a bar tab he cannot pay. Settle his 2,300 Cats and you get an early-game shooter with Turrets 78 and Crossbows 65.

Hell, you're lookin' at one of the best shooters in the swamps! Honed my skills workin' on a smuggler base 'til my crew got wiped out by Skull Collectors, Okran have mercy on their souls... Well damn, now you got me spoutin' religious crap, look.

Green is a unique recruitable character in The Swamp, a Worker Drone. He never leaves the bar of his own accord — the player will find him in a bar in Shark or Mud Town, or in The Dancing Skeleton, sitting there and carrying on drinking.

Recruitment tied up in a bar tab

Green charges no recruitment fee, but he also cannot leave: he has run up an enormous tab at the bar. The player has to clear it before he will come along, which works out to roughly 2,300 Cats.

This is one of the game's handful of "bar tab" recruitments (the other well-known case being Horse in the fishing village, at 4,500). For a starting squad, 2,300 Cats is not a trivial sum, but converted into combat value it is a bargain.

A smuggler whose crew was wiped out by the competition

Green describes himself as an ex-smuggler whose speciality is an "eye for shooting". His outfit was wiped out to a man by a rival gang, the Skull Collectors, in a single clash; he alone survived. He has been a bar fly ever since, passing the days on alcohol and credit.

He is always assigned the Smart personality and has 6 unique lines of dialogue — though most of them are shared with another unique recruit, Miu. The self-introduction above is his signature opener: boasting, self-mockery, an offhand mention of a crew that is already dead, and then embarrassment at the religious phrase that slipped out of him. A Hiver calling down the blessing of Okran, the god of the Holy Nation, is itself evidence of how long he has spent in human territory.

Combat profile

Green's stats are extraordinarily lopsided, and lopsided in exactly the right way:

AttributeValue
Turrets78
Crossbows65
Athletics12
Strength / Toughness / Dexterity0.8 / 1.2 / 1.2
All melee skills1

Which is to say that he has nothing whatsoever apart from shooting. Throwing him into a melee is handing the enemy a free kill, and a Strength of 0.8 makes even carrying weight a problem.

TipTurrets 78 is where this character's real value lies. Defensive turrets at a player-built outpost only produce output when someone is operating them, and the Turrets skill is extremely slow to train; paying 2,300 Cats for a gunner already close to 80 is a rare high-return option in the opening phase. Crossbows 65 also means he can serve as ranged damage from the moment he joins, with no grinding from zero.

The starting gear that comes with him is shabby by comparison: a Junkbow (one of the worst crossbows in the game), a Rag Shirt, Worn-out Shorts and a Basic First Aid Kit. The weapon should be replaced as early as possible.
