ShemReport

English:Shem · Locations

Desert oasis. No man's land. Main settlements: Smugglers Bar, Settled Nomads.

🗺 See this place on the map ↗

Seventy percent water, full marks for fertility, and no state anywhere to collect the tax — Shem looks like the best place on the map to settle down. The price is that the thing spawning hardest here is the Beak Thing, and the nomads who did settle never even put up a wall.

Notable units

NameTypeWhereNotes
SilvershadeRecruitableSmugglers BarA Hive Prince away from his hive; clear his three-thousand-Cat gambling debt and he joins. Shem sits on the road to Venge, so the bar is a convenient place to pick him up on the way.
BardRecruitableSmugglers BarA bard recruitable for the three thousand Cats on his bar tab. There is no town anywhere in this zone, so this is the only place a unique recruit turns up at all.
Wall ManRecruitableSmugglers BarA randomly named engineer who loves building walls. Shem is flat and taxed by nobody, which makes it a popular base-building zone — and five thousand good value.
Recruit Seeking RevengeRecruitableSmugglers BarA randomly named unique recruit; cover the three thousand Cats he owes the inn and he joins.
Smuggler BarmanMerchantSmugglers BarOne of the few merchants who will take illegal goods (24-hour restock, 50-item capacity), and he sells Gohan at 75% of list (324 Cats). The upper floor has a whole row of free beds, handy for putting a large squad up for the night.
SmugglerHostileSmugglers Bar (8 permanently stationed)Grayflayer gang members. They stay non-hostile so long as you do not go kidnapping Big Gray, their boss. A 5% chance of carrying a United Cities bounty of a bit over two thousand (the character page lists 1,500–2,500 instead).
Nomad Animal TraderMerchantThe Settled Nomads villageThe only shop in the zone worth the trip: Bonedogs, Pack Bulls, Pack Beasts and goats, the full range (mostly juveniles), plus Garru and Bull Backpacks. The village has no wall and no guards, so do not hang around too long and get it wiped out by Beak Things.
Dust BossHostileDust Bandit camps and wilderness patrols (second-highest spawn weight in the zone)Blocks the road for money with 5–10 Dust Bandits and up to 4 crossbowmen behind him. The camp version fields a bigger squad, and he is the steadiest bounty income in the zone.
Hungry Bandit LeaderHostileRoaming wilderness spawnsHis opening line is that he will have your food even if it kills him. A small payment sends him on his way. Explicitly set to carry no bounty.
LongenQuest-relatedReaches this zone through world state (the man himself is at Trader's Edge)If Tinfist dies or is imprisoned while Longen is still alive, the Settled Nomads village is taken over by Slave Traders and left in ruins, and slaver caravans start spawning here — the survival of this zone is tied straight to him.
