A Hive Prince who left his hive and owes a gambling den three thousand Cats; he hides from loneliness in the noisiest bars he can find, and three thousand Cats is one of the best-value recruitment fees in the game.
Silvershade is a Unique Recruit, a Hive Prince who has left his own hive. The player meets him in a bar — and specifically in the loudest one.
All this noise... in a bar like this I can't even hear myself think. A lot of people can't stand crowds. I like them. Ever since I left the hive that loneliness has never quite let go, and this place makes me feel a bit safer. — Silvershade
A three-thousand-Cat debt
He is not in the bar purely for the noise. He owes a gambling den owner a sum of money, and the owner has already put out word about breaking his legs.
The condition for recruiting him is straightforward: pay off his 3,000-Cat gambling debt and he joins the squad. This is one of the cheapest quality recruitments in the game — ordinary mercenary-type recruits routinely run six to ten thousand, and he asks for only three.
Where to find him
His main spawn point is Mud Town, but he can also appear at the following places: Black Scratch, Flats Lagoon, the Smugglers Bar, waystations around the map, and World's End.
Why he is worth buying
Most unique recruits are only better than average in a handful of skills. What makes Silvershade unusual is that his entire stat sheet has been pulled up a step, not just his combat numbers:
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| All melee weapons, attack and defence | 10 |
| Dexterity, Perception, Athletics, Stealth, Thievery | 12 |
| Strength | 8 |
| Toughness | 1.2 |
This means he is not merely a recruit who can fight; he is also a ready-made scout and thief — Stealth 12 and Thievery 12 are genuinely useful to a squad that is just getting started.
The price is written in the Toughness row: 1.2. That is the Hive Prince racial trait; their tolerance for being hit is extremely low, and once something closes on them they go down fast. On top of that, he joins with no weapon at all, so the player has to supply a blade.
Personality and dialogue
- He is very likely to have the "Honorable" or "Brave" personality, while "Rebellious", "Maniacal" and "Cowardly" rarely turn up on him — a plus for players who care about behavioural consistency in their squad.
- Once recruited he uses the "Player HIVER Ronin" dialogue package.
- Beyond his recruitment dialogue he has two lines of his own, though these two are not exclusive to him and other characters will say them too.
