Ex-Slave RecruitReport
English:Ex-Slave Recruit · Characters
A randomly named unique recruit whose backstory is a single line — somebody bought him out of slavery. He costs 3,000 Cats, has an Honourable personality, and can turn up as anything from a Greenlander to a skeleton.
It's nothing like the air in that mine. Tasted like metal, but not the kind we were looking for. Same smell in the cages. Sweaty, burning… I'd rather not think about it too much. Dwelling on the life of a slave is a shackling in itself. Sometimes I need to remember I'm free now. — Ex-Slave Recruit
The Ex-Slave Recruit is a randomly named unique recruit. His backstory is one sentence long: somebody bought him out of slavery. Who did the buying, and why, the game never says.
He is not one specific person. Every playthrough rolls his name from the random name list and rerolls his face and race with it — so you cannot pick him out of a bar crowd by name. You have to walk over and talk.
Where to find him
Three guaranteed spawn points: Crab Town (capital of the Crab Raiders), Mourn, and The Hub.
Beyond those, depending on world states, he can also appear in Blister Hill, Heft, Heng or Stoat; and less reliably in Black Scratch, Flats Lagoon, the Smugglers Bar, Waystation and Waystation Four, and World's End. Any settlement held by Deadcat or the Empire Peasants can hold him too.
Recruiting him, and his personality
He asks 3,000 Cats, and that is the whole transaction.
His personality is Honourable — one of the easier tags in Kenshi's personality system, and notably not one of the treacherous ones that go wrong at the worst possible moment. Once recruited he switches to the "Player TOUGH Merc" dialogue package and talks like any other hired sword.
What race will he be
His race is decided by the Drifters faction he hangs off, and the pool is wide:
- Greenlander and Scorchlander (human)
- Shek
- Hive Prince, Soldier Drone, Worker Drone
- P4 Unit and ordinary skeletons
60% of the time he is female.
That list is itself a piece of worldbuilding: the people who get sold are not of one race. Even skeletons — who in theory should not be enslaved at all — are on it.
His kit is close to nothing: a pair of ragged halfpants and one Basic First Aid Kit.
