DrifterReport

English:Drifter · Characters

Randomly named nobodies squatting in towns all over the continent. Four percent of them are already carrying a United Cities bounty — and if you heal one, he may join you.

Anybody ever disrespects you - I'll kill 'em! — a Drifter with a Maniacal personality

Drifter is not a person but a whole class of randomly named characters. They squat in towns across the continent and patrol some zones.

Who they belong to

A Drifter's faction floats. They can be Drifters, Tech Hunters, Mongrel, Flotsam Ninjas, Holy Nation Outlaws or Vagrants. Their race is determined by that faction — so you will meet Greenlander Drifters, and also Skeleton and Hive Prince ones.

Settlements where they can be residents include Bast, Black Scratch, Blister Hill (Holy Nation Outlaws), Flats Lagoon, Flotsam Village, Heft (Empire Peasants), Heng (Empire Peasants), Manhunter Base (Mercenary Guild), Mongrel, Mourn, Rebirth (Holy Nation Outlaws), Stoat (Empire Peasants), The Hub, Trader's Edge (Anti-Slavers), Waystation, World's End, plus Endin, Spring and The Free City.

Three things worth knowing

1. They hire as bodyguards

Drifters who belong to the Tech Hunters can be recruited as bodyguards and outpost guards at the same rate as Mercenary Guild members. That is a practical way to add bodies far from the big cities.

2. Healing can recruit them

Drifters have an unusual recruitment path: healing one has a chance of triggering recruitment dialogue. Their personality is random, but an Honorable Drifter is more likely to be recruited. Once in the squad they use the "Player TOUGH Merc" dialogue package.

3. A 4% chance he is worth money

Every Drifter has a 4% chance of carrying a bounty of 1 to 4,000 cats. A nameless traveller in a bar may be a cheque. Conversely, the bodyguard you just hired may come with a record.

Stats and behaviour

Combat stats 48 and ranged 40, but randomised by 20 — individual variation is huge, and two Drifters in the same town can be very different fighters.

Their weapons come from the Catun Scrapmaster: 71% Katana, 25% Ranger crossbow, 4% Tooth Pick. Armour is 92% Standard, 8% High.

They also have NPC Shopping Behavior and will buy Basic First Aid Kits, Bread, Cactus Rum, Splint Kits and Water for themselves.
