Flotsam VillageReport
English:Flotsam Village · Locations
Home base of the Flotsam Ninjas and of their leader Moll. Almost everyone here is a refugee or deserter from the Holy Nation, and most of them still worship Okran. The village's survival rests entirely on one woman.
Flotsam Village is the base of the Flotsam Ninjas and the home of their leader, Moll. It lies in the Hidden Forest, north of Rebirth and west of World's End — a choice of ground that describes the faction's whole situation: far enough from the Holy Nation, safe from nobody.
Who lives here
The village holds a great many residences, and the bulk of the population is made up of refugees and deserters from the Holy Nation. The Flotsam Ninjas guard the place, and as the name implies they are hostile to the Holy Nation.
The interesting part is the faith. Although these people fled the Holy Nation, most of the townsfolk still believe in and even worship Okran — the clearest evidence being how they react to seeing Skeleton characters. That is a Holy Nation reaction, not a heretic's one. What they turned against is the regime that drove them out, not the god.
Their faith is not simply the Holy Nation's creed relocated, though. The Flotsam Ninjas follow a divergent path that also venerates Narko, treating the two gods as necessary halves of a cosmic balance rather than mortal enemies. That single point is what gets them classed as heretics and traitors by the Holy Nation.
The membership is mostly women, built around defectors who escaped the Holy Nation, plus a significant proportion of volunteers — the wiki's inference is that most of those came from the Deadcat. Besides Moll, the faction has a second leader, Mani. Some of the people here are training in the village to become ninjas.
The village contains one unique building: the Swamp Dome, which serves as the Flotsam Ninjas' headquarters. There is also a corpse furnace on site — for a frontier settlement that grinds against its neighbours year-round, that facility says enough about daily life.
Why hide next door to the Cannibals
Placing the village near the range of the Cannibals (the Painted Tribe) looks suicidal and is in fact deliberate: the Cannibals are the most effective screen against pursuit there is, and Holy Nation hunting parties have no appetite for crossing them either.
The price is that the screen works just as well against its owners. The Cannibals periodically threaten the ninjas' own supply lines, so the Flotsam have to cull them regularly to stop them becoming a real problem. That same rule explains the ending at the bottom of this article: once the people doing the culling are gone, the screen turns around and swallows the village.
People you can take with you
Flotsam Village has one of the higher recruit densities in the game. Characters found here include:
Their backgrounds differ but the pressure that produced them is the same; the individual stories are told in the Flotsam Ninjas article.
After Moll falls
Flotsam Village has exactly one town override, and it is irreversible: if Moll dies or is imprisoned, the village is overrun by Cannibals.
What that version looks like:
- Most buildings are destroyed; the default resident in the data becomes, literally, "Destroyed Building".
- Three Cannibal home occupations move in, each holding one Cannibal Chief plus 7–13 Cannibals.
- Bar squads here run 6–25 Cannibals and 10–35 Scrawny Cannibals.
- The Flotsam Ninjas are still listed under Residence even though none of them are present — a leftover from the override.
- This is the end state. No further override exists for this settlement afterwards.
The Holy Nation's own comment on it:
Thank you, Lord of Light, for bringing an end to the rebellion... — Holy Citizen
A village founded by people who fled the Holy Nation, still praying to the Holy Nation's god, eaten by cannibals — after which a Holy Nation citizen thanks that god. The sequence needs no further commentary.
