Drifter's LastReport
English:Drifter's Last · Locations
A United Cities major town in the Hook, ringed by farmland outside its walls and held by Lady Merin of the Noble Circle. The farms draw repeated Outlaw Farmer raids, and anyone arrested here is sold into slavery.
Drifter's Last is a Major Town of the United Cities in the Hook, the southwestern region of the map. It forms a sharp pair with Clownsteady, the region's other Imperial town: Clownsteady has no noble and merely cages the people it arrests; Drifter's Last has a noble and sells them. For a player it is one of the few resupply points in the Hook, and the single worst place in the region to commit a crime.
You can walk to it, or reveal it by acquiring and reading the Map of the United Cities (Extended Territories).
Position and the farms outside
Drifter's Last sits in the Hook, with a number of farms just outside the town walls.
That ring of farmland is the key to reading the place. Unlike Clownsteady, which is transfused from distant slave farms, this town grows food on its own doorstep. The cost is that the fields are not inside the walls — they are exposed, and they are an invitation.
Lady Merin
The town is home to Lady Merin, a member of the Noble Circle.
In Imperial terms, that makes Drifter's Last an "owned" city. Its order, its guards and its handling of prisoners all run back to a noble rather than to some local official — which also makes it the place in the Hook where a player brushes up against Imperial noble politics most directly.
Danger: Outlaw Farmers
The area is frequently attacked by Outlaw Farmers.
This is the town's routine threat and the direct consequence of that ring of fields: where there is a harvest there are people who want to take it, and walls cannot protect land outside them. For a passing player it means running into groups of hostile farmers while moving around the outskirts; for anyone thinking of settling nearby, it means the ground outside the gates is not a safe gathering zone.
Do not commit crimes here
The consequences of being arrested differ sharply between the Hook's two United Cities towns:
| Place | What happens after they catch you |
|---|---|
| Clownsteady | Beaten, caged, healed |
| Drifter's Last | Enslaved and shipped to Slave Farm South |
So players looking to farm toughness and lockpicking off police training dummies should do it in Clownsteady, not here. Getting cuffed in Drifter's Last leads to slavery, not a cell.
Town overrides: two futures decided by two heads
Multiple World States can affect Drifter's Last, producing two overrides — and both triggers are written on the same pair of people: the town's noble Lady Merin, and Slave Mistress Grace of Slave Farm South.
Half-destroyed
Condition: Lady Merin is killed, but Grace is still alive.
The town stays under United Cities control and simply declines: ten buildings become ruins, commerce shrinks to the Drifter's Last General Shop, the Empire Armor Shop, a General Shop and one Empire Big Bar, plus barracks and four farm huts. It keeps the Empire Southwest Trade Culture.
In other words, cutting down the noble without touching the supply chain does not buy liberation — it buys a half-collapsed town.
Free Traders
Condition: Lady Merin and Grace are both killed.
The internal name of this version in the game files is Drifter's Last (override) prosperous — prosperous. That is the game's own verdict on this outcome.
Once the Free Traders take over, the town gains several things the Empire never gave it: four Adventurer Gate Guards, a Police Station, an Independent Bar, a Ronin Mechanical Shop, a Thieves Guild, and three civilian families. Its defences do not collapse; they get tighter than before. Trade-wise, both the Free Traders and the Empire Southwest trade cultures apply here.
These are not simply a worse and a better outcome. Half-destroyed is what Imperial failure looks like; Free Traders is what the place looks like once the Empire has left. And the name the game gives the latter is "prosperous".
