JewelReport
English:Jewel · Characters
A cook whose bar was taken over by the Shek — the easiest high-Cooking recruit to buy in the game. She does not fight, and makes no attempt to hide it.
Jewel is a Unique Recruit. She used to run a bar of her own, until the barbarians of the Shek took the whole place from her; now she drifts around town bars, waiting for someone willing to pay her six thousand cats.
I'm a cook, not a fighter. I know better than to go looking for death when there's no call for it. You say that's cowardice; I say it's a practical person being reasonable. — Jewel
Where to find her
She appears in any town controlled by the United Cities or the Empire Peasants, and can likewise spawn in the "town override" versions of the following towns: Bark, Brink, Clownsteady, Drifter's Last, Heft, Heng and Sho-Battai.
Which is to say, she is one of the unique recruits in the game you least need to make a special trip for — wander the bars anywhere inside the empire and you will run into her sooner or later.
Cost versus real value
Recruiting her takes 6,000 Cats, which puts her in the upper-middle bracket among unique recruits. What that money buys is not combat ability at all:
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Cooking | 50 |
| Athletics | about 12 |
| Strength, Toughness, Dexterity, Perception | 0–2 |
| All weapon and combat skills | 0–2 |
Her combat numbers are indistinguishable from a newborn bystander's; taking her to the front line is essentially handing over a free kill.
The real value is in the rear. Cooking 50 is a very high starting point, meaning the player can skip the long grind of training a cook up from 1 when setting up a base — bread, dried rations, meatwraps and the rest of the food chain that needs a cooking level before it can be mass-produced reliably are all available the moment she walks in. For a squad about to shift from wandering to settling down, six thousand cats replaces several dozen hours of levelling.
Dialogue and details
- Her personality is "Smart", and after recruitment she uses the "Player TOUGH Merc" dialogue package.
- She has exactly one dedicated line, and even that is not exclusive to her — Digna, Izumi and Reva all share the same one.
- She is a small anomaly at the data level: although her race is Scorchlander, she uses the Greenlander body mesh file, so her skin is one shade lighter than a normal Scorchlander's. That kind of mixing appears on only a handful of characters in the game.
