Slave Farm SouthReport

English:Slave Farm South · Locations

The slave camp of The Hook, and the place you are most likely to wake up in after being knocked out anywhere in the region. It is Grace's residence, Clownsteady's granary, and the slave camp with the most clearly documented escape route in the game.

Slave Farm South is a slave camp in The Hook, run by the Slave Traders. It is not the kind of location you put on an itinerary — it is a place you very probably do not walk into under your own power. Get knocked down anywhere in this region, get shackled, and this is what you see when you wake up.

Two ways in

There are only two intake routes, and both are short:

  1. Characters taken by the Slave Traders or the Slave Hunters are marched straight here.
  2. Characters who break the law in Drifter's Last are handed over to the slavers by the town itself.

The second route is what actually makes this camp matter. The Hook holds two United Cities towns with completely different ends to their justice systems: Clownsteady locks you up, Drifter's Last sells you — and the buyer is here. One region, two towns, two fates.

NoteThere is another facility in the game simply called the Slave Farm, out near Heng and run by Slave Mistress Ren. Do not confuse the two — this is the southern one.

What is here

Slave camp state (default)

The building list reads like an operating manual: one Noble House (where Grace lives), one Slaver Bar, three Slave Shops, a Slaver Barracks, five Slave Cage Shacks, a small generator shack with generators, and farmland outside the walls.

There is also one fixture you rarely see elsewhere: a Corpse Furnace. The game's own description of it is a single line — "A safe and efficient way to deal with corpses. Bodies attract predators, predators eat you." A farm that needs a standing furnace has written its own mortality rate into its building list.

Security is two Work Camp Gate Guards plus a full Slaver Barracks. As for what the "shops" here sell — all three are Slave Shops, and the stock on the shelves is people.

Farm town state (after the Free Traders take over)

When the Free Traders take the site, the vendor list changes completely.

The same patch of ground sells exactly opposite things in its two world states: one sells people, the other sells dinner.

Who lives here

This is the home of Slave Mistress Grace. She is a noble of the Traders Guild, a Scorchlander, carrying a Meitou-grade Wakizashi and surrounded — as guild nobles always are — by four Empire Noble Guard Hooded and four Samurai Heavy.

There is no official bounty on her, but she carries money 90% of the time, somewhere between 1,000 Cats and 5,000 Cats, along with an Advanced First Aid Kit, Luxury Goods, Hashish and Grog.

How to get out

This is one of the very few places in the game whose escape routes are spelled out explicitly. Both are worth remembering.

TipRun on the road. On the march from Drifter's Last, the slavers have to swim to get here. While they are in the water they cannot attack you for escaping, and if you swim away from them they will not give chase.
TipWait once inside. The best moment comes when your character is ordered out to work one of the farms outside the walls. Pick the lock on your shackles in advance; once the work order puts you beyond the wall, drop the "obedient slave" job and run flat out for the Waystation.

After it falls

The camp's survival hangs on two people:

ConditionResult
Grace killed or imprisonedSlave Farm South falls to ruins
Grace and the Slave Market Master both killed or imprisonedThe Free Traders take over and half-rebuild it into a farm town

The Free Traders version deserves one extra note: it still shows a town icon on the map, but it is actually smaller than before — more buildings destroyed than rebuilt. The site is a slave camp partially converted into a farm town, and the trade culture changes with it: Free Traders Trade Culture applies, and the Empire Southwest Trade Culture disappears from the location entirely.

ImportantThe Free Traders outlaw everything connected to Hemp production — but this farm town has no police. It is a rare, very literal gap: the rule is on the books, and there is nobody here to enforce it.
