Lady Merin is a United Cities noble, a member of the Noble Circle, and the ruler of the southern town of Drifter's Last. Five Hooded Empire Noble Guards accompany her at all times.
The noble of the south
The Noble Circle is a group hand-picked by Emperor Tengu, and the wiki's verdict on them is merciless: every one of them equally cruel, vain and incompetent. Lady Merin and Lord Shiro are responsible for the southern Empire, and Drifter's Last, where she is seated, is a large town in the south-west of The Hook, ringed by farms outside its walls and frequently raided by desperate farmers.
It is worth noting that when the Anti-Slavers smash the Empire's slave camps and every Empire town falls into malnutrition, Drifter's Last is one of only two towns unaffected — the territory she administers grows enough food for itself.
The price of touching her
Nobles in this game are protected by diplomatic status. The moment the player picks any hostile or insulting dialogue option, the guards will jump you and a bounty will be added to your own head; choosing to attack or abduct a noble brings, on top of a heavy relations penalty, a hefty terrorism charge.
Conversely, what does capturing her get you? Almost nothing.
After she falls
- Drifter's Last is half destroyed. If Slave Mistress Grace has also been killed or imprisoned, the town passes directly into the hands of the Empire Peasants.
- Rebel Farmers patrols stop spawning in The Hook, replaced by better-equipped Rebel Swordsmen.
- If Merin, the Market Master and Grace have all fallen, Samurai patrols disappear from The Hook entirely.
In other words, her death is one of three nails driving this coastline from "under Empire rule" towards anarchy.
Details
- Her base stats are exactly identical to those of Lady Tsugi, the other female member of the Noble Circle.
- She and Lady Sanda wear the same outfit: Leather Turtleneck, Dyed Trousers, Wooden Sandals.
- She is the only United Cities noble who drinks Cactus Rum rather than Bloodrum.
