A large ruin in the Howler Maze taken over by crabs, with a Megacrab patrolling the courtyard. One intact library holds the real prize — provided you do not open every door on the way to it.
The Lost Town is a large ruin located within the Howler Maze. It is currently home to multiple crab nests and a Megacrab.
Where it is
The Howler Maze is an island tied to the mainland by a few land bridges that sit under water. There was a city here once; what is left is crabs and crab nests — the zone supports up to 19 nests at a time. The weather includes heavy acid rain, and there is no settlement anywhere to shelter in.
What is here
The Lost Town is made of many buildings, one of which is an intact library — that is where the higher-end loot sits. The rest of the standing structures hold mid-to-low tier items.
Intact buildings
- Library
- Small Shack x2
- L-House
- Y-House
Ruined buildings
- Small Shack x5, Storm House, L-House x2, Longhouse x3, Stephouse x2, Outpost s-III x2, Outpost s-IV x3, Watchtower
That list tells you what this was — a proper settlement with walls, towers and multiple households, not a camp.
Loot
| Category | Items |
|---|---|
| Junk | Tools, Motor, Capacitor, Wrench |
| Trade goods | Skeleton Eye, Skeleton Muscle, Power Core |
| Crafting materials | Raw Copper, Raw Stone, Raw Iron, Leather, Armour Plating, Electrical Components, Fabrics, Iron Plates, Building Materials, Fuel |

The Power Core, Skeleton Muscle and Skeleton Eye are pure cash — high-value trade goods, and the main income from the trip.
How to take it
The Megacrab is one of the largest crabs in the game, with 898 to 1,369 blood and 660 to 1,023 health per body part. Its presence here might explain why the town was destroyed, or the ruins may simply predate the crabs.
The good news is that it is easy to fool.
Three other things to keep in mind.
- The crab nests are inside the buildings. Open those doors and the crabs swarm into the middle area to fight you alongside the Megacrab. Open only the doors you need.
- Wait long enough in game and the baby crabs nesting in the buildings age up to "Elder" — considerably more dangerous than the adult crabs patrolling the maze. Leaving the place alone does not make it safer, it makes it worse.
- Defeating the Megacrab yields the unique trophy Megacrab Ganglion.
Why the player cares
The Lost Town is a textbook mid-game set piece — one fat, slow boss, a mob of adds that the player releases personally, one building with the actual prize in it, and a weather system pushing you to be quick. It compresses Kenshi's central question into one sentence. Do you clear it, or do you take what you came for and leave?
