ManhuntersReport

English:Manhunters · Factions

Professional hunters who make a living catching escaped slaves — stronger, more numerous and better equipped than Slave Hunters. And if nobody is watching, you will do just as well as an "escaped slave".

This one kinda looks like an escaped slave, don't you think? — a Manhunter considering an attack

The Manhunters are a faction who hunt escaped slaves for a living. They occupy the same niche as the Slave Hunters, and the wiki's comparison is blunt: stronger, better-equipped, more frequent, and more numerous.

NoteKeep four groups apart: Manhunters (this faction — freelance slave-catchers), Slave Hunters, Slave Traders (who buy from them), and Bounty Hunters (who chase bounties, not slaves).

Where they are

Their headquarters is the Manhunter Base in The Hook, and it is the only location they control. The wiki notes its proximity to the Slave Markets and Slave Farm South, and draws the obvious conclusion: it exists to supply both with labour and to stop anyone from getting away.

Patrols spawn in five zones — Heng, Skimsands, The Eye, The Great Desert and The Hook — all inside United Cities territory. They travel in groups of 5 to 14 and prefer soft targets, usually Starving Vagrants and Rebel Farmers.

When they will come for you

This is the part worth memorising. Manhunters will not target the player if:

Otherwise — and specifically when there are no witnesses — they will knock down free people and pass them off to the Slave Traders as escaped slaves, even when doing so is obviously a bad idea.

TipFighting back in self-defence does not incur a bounty. The real cost is losing: a failed fight can leave some or all of your characters enslaved.

If the character in question genuinely is an escaped slave, none of the exemptions above apply. They will try to recapture them regardless.

They carry a Spiked Club and wear a Masked Helmet, Mercenary Plate, Samurai Clothpants and Plated Longboots, with a Basic First Aid Kit on hand. The stats are not impressive, but full plate on 5–14 bodies is a hard meal for a young squad — and their goal is to knock you out, not to kill you.

Greenlanders, Scorchlanders, Shek and Hive Soldier Drones all carry the same race weight, so a Manhunter squad is usually more mixed than other United Cities groups.

How to thin them out

The Manhunters are one of the few factions you can weaken through world states.

To reduce patrol frequency, kill or imprison any of:

To remove them from The Hook entirely (which also affects the Manhunter Base), you must deal with both of:

In other words, this is not an organisation you break by killing its leader — it has no leader, only clients. To move the Manhunters you have to move the Slave Traders.
