HeadshotReport

English:Headshot · Characters

A Shek huntress working for the slave traders. Her melee stats are effectively zero, but Turrets 55 and Crossbows 50 make her one of the best early-game ranged recruits in the whole game.

Headshot is a female Shek slave hunter who can be recruited for 7,500 Cats in a Slaver Bar, either in Eyesocket or in the Slave Markets.

Her stat distribution is extreme to the point of absurdity.

A deformed skill sheet

ItemLevel
Turrets54–56
Crossbows49–51
Perception14–16
Athletics7.2–8.8
Strength / Toughness / Dexterity0–2
Six weapon skills, melee attack and defence, dodge, martial arts0–2

In a melee she is a punching bag. Any desert bandit at all can knock her down, and with Toughness below 3 she does not get back up.

But those two ranged lines change the whole picture. In the early game a player's own outpost turrets are usually manned by some grunt with a single-digit skill and an accuracy that hurts to watch; spending seven and a half thousand to buy a level 55 turret gunner outright skips several dozen hours of training. She is also one of the few characters who can shoulder the crossbow line the moment she is recruited.

TipThe correct use for her is to pin her to a wall turret and never let her come down off the wall. If the squad has no base yet, she has almost no chance of surviving in the field — build the walls first, then buy the person.

What "Traitorous" actually does

Her personality field is set to Traitorous. That tag has concrete mechanical consequences, mostly around prisons and escapes:

In other words, the tag makes the whole "recruit people by freeing slaves" route useless for characters like her. That only affects the slave recruitment flow, though — Headshot herself is hired outright for money, and once the seven and a half thousand is paid she is a squad member and will not defect over her personality.

A line that lore research keeps quoting

Headshot has one unique line of dialogue:

The sound of a harpoon splitting a skull, right on target… it has been too long.

This line is quoted over and over in discussions of Shek lore, because it is structurally almost identical to the Shek Kingdom Hundred Guardian's "the sound of a blade in flesh, the touch of death calling… too long, I miss the battlefield".

The crucial point is that Headshot has nothing whatsoever to do with the Shek Kingdom. She works for slave traders, lives in a town inside the United Cities system, and has never had a day of Shek Kingdom warrior schooling. One reading takes this as an argument that Shek belligerence is not something culture teaches but something written at the physiological level — which fits the inference that the Shek were genetically engineered for combat. The game itself never says so outright, of course; this remains interpretation.

A Shek inside the slave industry

Her situation is a detail worth noting in itself. Shek are generally treated as foreigners within the United Cities, and the slave camps are filled mostly with escapees from the Holy Nation and imperial commoners; Headshot, however, stands on the catching side, working for the slave traders.

The game never explains why she is there.
