Herbivore is one of Kenshi's animal factions. Like Raptors, the game defines it as "not real" — it is absent from the faction tab, its relations cannot be inspected, and there is nothing there to negotiate with.

It holds no locations at all, and it has exactly three members: Wild Bull, Goat and Garru.

Why the faction exists

The three animals have one thing in common: they do not attack people first.

In a game where most wildlife charges on sight, that is worth grouping. This family is the steadiest early meat supply on the map and it will not hunt you back. Docile is not the same as easy, though. Goats are far tougher than they look, and plenty of new characters go down to one; a Wild Bull charge is not something a starting squad shrugs off either.

The three lists barely overlap: Vain carries bulls and garrus, Border Zone, The Hook and The Unwanted Zone carry goats and garrus, and Shun is goat habitat plus a garru herd zone. Added together, three members cover twenty-four zones.

One relation

Herbivore has a single special relation: Wildlife at 0, meaning coexistence. Raptors records the same 0 from the other side — River Raptors are scavengers and do not hunt live prey, so the two groups meeting does not start anything.

Toward the player there is no non-zero relation. Clear out every herd in Skinner's Roam and the next bull will not hold it against you.

Forbidden Isle

Fandom notes one world-state change: under certain world states this faction can be found patrolling Forbidden Isle. The source does not say which world states, and this site has not found a more specific answer.

What this article is for

The same thing Raptors is for — sorting out what belongs to what. When Wild Bull or Garru lists "Faction: Herbivore" in its infobox, that is not an organisation you will ever meet. It is a tag in the game files.

Nor does every docile grazer belong to it. The Swamp Turtle also eats plants and also causes you no trouble, but it sits under Wildlife and is not on this list.
