Slave Mistress GraceReport

English:Slave Mistress Grace · Characters

A noble of the Traders Guild and mistress of the southern slave farm; there is no bounty on her at all, yet she is one of the links that has to break before the whole southern slave supply chain comes apart.

Slave Mistress Grace is a noble member of the Traders Guild and runs Slave Farm South in The Hook. Hers is the name with the clearest position on the whole production chain of slavery.

Slave Farm South

Characters taken by slave traders or slave hunters almost all end up here, as do those sentenced to be handed over to the slavers for breaking the law in Drifter's Last. The layout of the farm is uncomfortably plain — five slave cage shacks, a slaver bar, generators, and a corpse furnace. Grace lives in the noble house among them.

NoteThere is another facility in the game called simply the "Slave Farm", located in Heng and managed by Slave Mistress Ren. The two should not be confused.

What she is carrying

She has no bounty — no faction anywhere is willing to pay for her head. Her financial value lies entirely in what she carries:

That wakizashi alone is worth the trip. The number of Meitou weapons in the game is fixed, and she is one of the very few holders who stands still, in a fixed location.

TipAnother coincidence at the file level: Grace, Lady Kana and Slave Mistress Ren all carry a Meitou-grade wakizashi. If you want to collect this tier of short blade, those three are the list.

Combat data

Her figures have an unusually wide random range (FCS marks it ±10): Strength 27–45, Toughness 30–50, Dexterity 33–55, weapon skills of every type and melee attack and defence 30–50, Athletics 36–60, Perception and Dodge close to 0 or even negative, and Assassination 20.

In other words her own strength falls somewhere between "middling mercenary" and "awkward", entirely depending on the numbers rolled when she spawns. The real barrier is the 8 bodyguards: 4 Empire Noble Guard Hooded plus 4 Samurai Heavy, all of them in [Specialist] equipment or better.

After she falls

Grace is a shared precondition for several world states in the south, and most of them have to be read together with the Slave Market Master:

ConditionResult
Grace deadSlave Farm South falls to ruins
Grace dead + Slave Market Master dead/imprisonedSlave Farm South is taken over by Free Traders instead
Grace deadClownsteady enters the malnourished state
Grace dead + Slave Market Master dead/imprisonedClownsteady comes under Empire Peasants control instead
Grace + Lady Merin both dead/imprisonedDrifter's Last is handed to the Empire Peasants
Grace + Slave Market Master both dead/imprisonedManhunter Base falls into the hands of the Mercenary Guild; slave trader, manhunter and slave hunter patrols stop spawning in The Hook

That last line is the important one. What most often stops the player on the roads of The Hook is not bandits but people coming to check whether you have an owner; dealing with those two names, Grace and the Slave Market Master, switches off the slaving patrols across the entire region at a stroke.

ImportantNote the "Clownsteady falls into famine" entry: dismantling the slave farm is not free of cost. When the supply chain is cut, the towns that ate off it come down with it. Kenshi very rarely offers a clean good deed.
