Slaver BossReport

English:Slaver Boss · Characters

The shopkeeper of a Slave Shop. You can haul in knocked-out bandits and sell them for about 400 cats each — or spend money to buy someone out of the cages, which amounts to paying for their freedom.

The Slaver Boss is the shopkeeper of a Slave Shop and a member of the Slave Traders. He runs exactly one line of business: buying people and selling people.

Trade in both directions

Selling to him. He buys slaves carried in by the player or by slave-hunting NPCs. Bandit-type characters such as Starving Vagrants and Rebel Farmers go for about 400 Cats each. They are everywhere in the desert and low-skilled, which makes this one of the easiest ways to generate money early on. You can also sell your own party members, for a price that varies with their skills.

Buying from him. The slaves in the cages can be purchased — but buying one does not mean they join your faction. The wiki phrases it precisely: what you buy is the slave's freedom, with the same result as picking the cage open and unlocking the shackles yourself.

Freed slaves then tend to do one of two things: sprint out of the city at full speed, or follow you in anticipation of being led out. Either way the town guards will usually brutalise and recapture them. Escort one a safe distance beyond the walls, though, and you have a fresh recruit.

How the shop works

NoteSlave Shops stay open all night, so breaking in after dark to free people is not easy. Picking those locks is excellent Lockpicking training, but being seen doing it counts as "terrorism" and earns you a bounty.

Slave Shops are fixtures in most United Cities settlements — Bark, Eyesocket, Heft, Port North (3), Port South (3), Sho-Battai, Slave Farm (3), Slave Markets, South Stone Camp (2), Stone Camp, Stoat and Trader's Edge. The Holy Nation employs slave labour too, but there are no Slave Shops in their cities.

A shop spawns with a handful of already shackled characters, and is then periodically "restocked" by Slave Traders, Slave Hunters and Manhunters, who pick up any unconscious character they come across — not only the ones they knocked down themselves.

ImportantWhich means this: if your characters go down in or near a United Cities town, they may not be arrested by the police and may not last long enough for a rescue. They can end up in the cages instead.

The man himself

The boss is a Greenlander carrying a Catun Scrapmaster Longsword, dressed in a Dyed Turban and Dyed Robes — clothing that takes on the faction's colour scheme. His armour is Standard grade (10% chance of High).

His attributes and weapon skills all sit at 40–50 (randomised by 5), and the shop also holds two Slaver Guards. He is not a casual robbery target.
