WaystationReport

English:Waystation · Locations

Four small Tech Hunter outposts scattered across the wilderness — a bar and a mechanical shop, and that is the whole town. They are possible starting points for the Freedom Seekers, and for most players the only bed between two cities.

🗺 See this place on the map ↗

Waystations are minor outposts controlled by the Tech Hunters. There are only four intact Waystations and two Waystation Ruins in the world, plus one additional Waystation building inside Black Scratch and four inside World's End.

Their role in the game is simple: a bed, a meal and a counter that will turn your scavenged junk into money, somewhere between two cities.

The four Waystations

LocationWhat sets it apart
Border ZoneThe only Waystation with a Robotics Workshop
Grey DesertHas a ruined Watchtower you can buy and rebuild
Stenn DesertEastern edge of Shek territory; good for shaking off a small bounty
The HookBetween Clownsteady and Drifter's Last, with quality-80 copper mines nearby

Two Waystation Ruins exist as well, in Venge and Stobe's Garden.

What is here

The standard Waystation is two buildings: an Adventurer Bar and an Adventurer Mechanical Shop. Between them they cover exactly what a travelling squad tends to run out of.

The bar is run by a Waystation Barman — a named shopkeeper of the Tech Hunters and Anti-Slavers, wearing [Shoddy] armour (5% chance of [Standard]) and carrying weapons manufactured by Catun Scrapmaster. Despite the name, they also appear in Tech Hunter and Anti-Slaver town bars, not only in Waystations.

TipEvery non-ruined Waystation has a 25% chance to spawn pacifiers from the United Cities, the Traders Guild, the Holy Nation and the Shek Kingdom. If you need to repair relations with a major faction, a Waystation is one of the few places to meet a pacifier without walking into that faction's territory.

Bar squads here can also produce recruitable characters: Recruit, Adventurer Recruit, Fighter Recruit, Amateur Recruit, Bard, Ex-Slave Recruit, Outlaw Recruit, Tenacious Recruit, Recruit Seeking Revenge, Silvershade, Outlaw Medic, Engineer Recruit, Wall Man and Medic Recruit — alongside Bar Thug Drunks, Flotsam Ninjas, Ninjas, Sand Ninjas, Dust Bandits, Hungry Bandits and Hobbs.

Using each one

The Border Zone Waystation stands in the centre of the landmass, on the easternmost stretch of the Borderlands, with Tech Hunters and Mercenary Guild members among its residents. It is the only Waystation with a Robotics Workshop — the sole source of limbs and skeletal parts in the starting region. Reading the Map of the Border Zone unlocks it. It is an excellent place to rest after being harassed by Dust Bandits or Starving Bandits, and a convenient place to sell loot from the nearby Tiny Settlement and Ruined Holy Outpost.

The Grey Desert Waystation works well as a base of operations for raiding the Deadlands. Its ruined Watchtower is for sale at 21,000 Cats, and once rebuilt it makes a genuinely good early-to-mid game base for a small group. Rebuilding needs additional Building Materials and Iron Plates in randomised amounts, which you can buy on the spot from the Mechanical Shop.

The Stenn Desert Waystation sits on the far eastern edge of the Stenn Desert; its residents include Mercenary Guild members and Drifters. It is a good place to rest and hide after earning a small bounty from the nearby Shek Kingdom. Just north of the gate there is a campfire with three Dried Meat beside it — a leftover from development, and a small easter egg.

The Hook Waystation lies between Clownsteady and Drifter's Last, with quality-80 copper mines nearby. It is the natural bolt-hole for someone who has just escaped United Cities slavery — but be careful: Traders Guild caravans occasionally stop here, and they will attack escaped slaves. One collapsed Old Storm House is for sale at 6,000 Cats.

Waystation Ruins

The two ruined Waystations in the southeast (Venge and Stobe's Garden) can also serve as a Freedom Seekers starting point. Most of the loot is junk, but items such as Skeleton Repair Kits can spawn. The Stobe's Garden ruin has no Artifact system spawning at all.

The Venge ruin contains roughly:

ItemQtyPrice each
Skeleton Repair Kit24,341 Cats
Skeleton Muscle11,944 Cats
Steel Bars3648 Cats
Armour Plating1504 Cats
Book1300 Cats

Why the player cares

A Waystation's value is not in what it sells but in where it is. The Tech Hunters are a tiny organisation that lives by picking over ancient ruins, and they also supply and advise newer adventurers — the Tech Hunter's Notes book series is that role written down. Waystations are the same service, placed on the map.

For the player that means three things: a safe bed in the wilderness, a trading partner who does not care which faction you have annoyed, and — if you picked the Freedom Seekers start — a home you begin the game already standing in.
