BerserkersReport

English:Berserkers · Factions

Rogue Shek who refused the Shek Kingdom's civilisation, identifiable by their maroon clothing and armour. Combat levels of 40 and up, and a relation of -100 towards every organised power on the continent.

Today is a good day to die, warrior! — A Berserker's challenge

Berserkers are Shek fighters who deserted the Shek Kingdom. Nobody excommunicated them; they walked away from the order themselves, returning to their old tribal nature in search of challenge and conflict.

A kingdom that split

After Esata forged the Shek from tribes into a kingdom, not every warrior followed. A great many were expelled or migrated northwards, far away from Shek Kingdom territory, and eventually formed a region that took its name from them: Berserker Country.

But a significant number stayed behind, along with their most important leader, Ghost. The southern remnant is based at Berserker Village on the Spider Plains — a small outpost that is mostly ruins: two destroyed Storm Houses, two destroyed watchtowers and a few remaining wall sections.

NoteThe region "Berserker Country" and the faction "Berserkers" are two different things. When the map labels the patrols around Spider Plains and Stenn Desert as Berserkers, it means this faction, not that northern region.

The Shek Kingdom's position: not your business

When negotiating an alliance with Bayan, the player can offer to deal with the Berserker problem plaguing Shek lands. Bayan turns it down:

Futility. You think the Stone Golem needs help dealing with lost kin? Let them do what they will, it is OUR business.... Next question, outlander!

The Kingdom treats them as a family matter and refuses outside help. This is also why Berserkers will keep attacking you on the same soil even after you ally with the Shek Kingdom.

What happens when you meet them

Berserkers attack on sight, and their relations table is the most complete list of severed ties in the game — every single entry below sits at -100:

Bloodraiders, Holy Nation Outlaws, Old Machines, Police, Shek Kingdom, Slave Traders, United Cities, The Holy Nation, Traders Guild.

This is not a gang you can pay off. No protection money, no tolls, no way in — only the fight.

Combat statistics

AttributeLevel
Strength27.5 – 49.5
Toughness30 – 54
Dexterity20 – 36
Melee Attack30 – 54
Melee Defence25 – 45
Weapon skills25 – 45 (Katanas, Sabres, Hackers, Heavy Weapons, Blunt, Polearms)

This is a fully formed mid-game force, not a starting bandit squad. Measured against the Dust Bandits of the Border Zone with their low double-digit stats, the Berserkers are a whole tier above: Toughness in the fifties, Melee Attack in the fifties, and they are Shek, whose Toughness growth is naturally high. A fresh party that walks into a Berserker patrol on the Spider Plains usually goes down as a unit.

The good news is that they neither eat people nor take slaves — they knock you down and move on. The bad news is that the Spider Plains also hold Skin Spiders, and a body on the ground is food to a spider.

TipBerserker gear is [Shoddy] quality with a 5% chance of [Standard], and their weapons are manufactured by Ancient. So the reward for beating them is not loot — it is that they are one of the few enemies in the game that come to you, in stable numbers, and do not carry your people away.

Ghost

Their leader Ghost — real name Suchon — was a Shek Kingdom warrior before his exile, presumably expelled in disgrace after losing a battle. He then became the leader of the Berserkers, the Shek who would not accept civilisation. See Ghost.

His existence drives the state of the whole faction: once Ghost dies, the Berserkers drop from organised squads to a remnant. Remarkably, this applies even to the geographically isolated branches in Berserker Country and Cannibal Plains, which have no traversing route to him — Fandom lists this under trivia precisely because it makes no in-world sense.

One more world state: if High Inquisitor Seta is taken down while Ghost is alive and free, Berserker patrols will range as far north as Okran's Gulf.

NoteBerserker Village itself is attacked at times by Skin Spiders, which sometimes leads to Ghost being killed and subsequently eaten. In other words, you may arrive to find this faction's leader already gone.

Towns that can change hands

Depending on World States, Admag — the Shek Kingdom capital — can fall under Berserker control. That is one of the most direct consequences of toppling the Kingdom: a Shek Kingdom without Esata gets taken over by the very branch she once put down.

Population

There are not many of them. They are low enough in population that they get no homeless spawns in the Border Zone at all, and only one in Okran's Gulf. On the same map, Shek Kingdom homeless spawns outnumber theirs by 1.7x (Spider Plains), 4.5x (Stenn Desert) and 5.25x (Okran's Gulf).

Which is to say: they are ferocious, and they are losing.
