SpidersReport

English:Spiders · Factions

An animal faction made up mostly of spiders, with the Bugmaster as its nominal head. The misleading part of the name is that a spider in Kenshi does not necessarily belong to the Spiders faction.

Spiders is an animal faction. Most of its members are spiders, though not all of them: the Bugmaster is a human, and because the faction carries his name he is generally taken to be its leader.

A spider is not necessarily a Spider

This is where the word gets misread. The faction is called Spiders, but the creatures called spiders are not all tagged to it.

CreatureFaction tag
Skin SpiderSpiders
Blood SpiderSpiders, Swamp Creatures, Ancient Ruins (depends on where it spawned)
Iron SpiderOld Machines
Security SpiderAncient Ruins, Old Machines, Second Empire

Blood Spiders use all three tags. The packs that spawn in The Swamp, the South Wetlands and the Burning Forest are mostly Swamp Creatures, while the ones at Lost Libraries are Spiders. Iron Spiders and Security Spiders do not belong here at all; they are machines and they answer to Old Machines.

NoteA faction tag decides who fights whom, not what something looks like. To work out whether the spiders in front of you will attack the squad standing next to them, check the tag, not the number of legs.

Relations

Every relation on the faction's sheet is coexistence. There is no hostile entry at all:

FactionRelation
Wildlife0, coexistence
Herbivore0, coexistence
Swamp Creaturescoexistence
Swamperscoexistence
Houndscoexistence

Swamp Creatures carries the same set, so whichever tag a Blood Spider in the Swamp happens to be wearing, it will not fight the Hounds or the Swampers. When spiders catch you crossing the Swamp, do not expect the Hounds patrol nearby to help.

The player is not on that sheet.

Where you meet them

Arach is the densest area. Spiders there are homeless spawns, either a spider squad of 1 to 10 or a spider swarm of 20 to 30. Beyond it there is Spider Plains, neighbouring Shun, the Stenn Desert, and Bonefields with High Bonefields in the southeast. The swamp-side Blood Spiders live in The Swamp, the South Wetlands and the Burning Forest.

TipTwo weapon bonuses matter here: sharp polearms do 25% to 50% extra damage to animals, and the Desert Sabre does a flat 100% extra against Skin Spiders.

Rot

The faction sheet records exactly one settlement that can fall to the spiders, and that is Rot. The condition is that Big Grim, Big Darkbrow and Big Gray of the Hounds are all dead or imprisoned. Rot is then overwritten as ruins and overrun by a Blood Spider infestation.

On the overwritten Rot, the type field reads Ruins and the faction field reads Spiders.

Killing the Bugmaster does not clear the ground

On the Forbidden Isle the pattern is that killing the Spider Foreman stops the island's Iron Spiders from spawning. Arach does not work that way.

Its spiders sit on the homeless spawn list, tied to no camp and no nest, and the zone records no world state override of any kind. Read from that data, the spiders in Arach keep spawning after the Bugmaster dies; you can collect the bounty, but the terrain does not get safer. This is a conclusion drawn from the faction and zone files, not from a logged playthrough.
