Slave Market MasterReport
English:Slave Market Master · Characters
The Traders Guild noble posted to the Slave Markets, never seen without his eight guards; kill him and the entire market collapses into ruins — and even Clownsteady's food supply starts to fail.
"Ugh! Filthy peasant! Get away from me!"
That is the first thing the Slave Market Master says to the player, and usually the only thing.
An official who manages people, not production
He is a noble member of the Traders Guild and runs the Slave Markets in the South Wetlands. Like the guild's other nobles he lives in a noble house, permanently accompanied by 4 Hooded Empire Noble Guards and 4 heavy samurai.
The Slave Markets are an unusual site: they contain no production facilities of any kind — the slaves there neither farm nor mine. The reasonable inference is that the place is the dispatch hub of the entire slave supply chain, responsible for gathering, sorting and trading the people captured by various outfits (the Red Sabres and Swamp Ninjas operating in the region, for instance) before shipping them off to the nearby southern slave farms to do the actual work. The Slave Market Master's job is running that line.
Put another way, he is not a foreman but the head broker. Which is also why his death has a disproportionately large effect on the map as a whole.
A randomised race
An easily overlooked design detail: this character's race is randomly generated, and may be Greenlander, Scorchlander, Shek or even a Hive Soldier Drone. The four versions differ slightly in their numbers, but the trunk is the same — attributes and weapon skills land between 30 and 50 with a ±10 spread on spawn.
He is not a superboss-tier opponent, but he is certainly not a target you can handle casually either; the real obstacle is those eight guards. He wears Specialist grade armour (10% chance of Masterwork), with weapons made by the Catun Scrapmaster or by Skeleton Smiths.
After you kill him
This is one of the noble targets with the densest chain reaction in the game. The following world states are triggered by his death or imprisonment:
- The Slave Markets turn directly into ruins (site override).
- Slave trader patrols on the Hook appear less frequently.
- Clownsteady falls into malnourishment.
- If Slave Mistress Grace is also dead or imprisoned: Clownsteady passes to the Empire Peasants.
- If Grace dies as well: Slave Farm South falls to the Free Traders and the Manhunter base is taken over by the Mercenary Guild; Manhunter and Slave Hunter patrols on the Hook vanish entirely.
- If Lady Merin is removed along with Grace: even samurai patrols stop spawning on the Hook.
