Old Control TowerReport

English:Old Control Tower · Locations

An ancient tower in Venge that has been picked completely clean, now home to the Scavenger leader Gutterhead. One locked wooden chest is all that is left — and that chest rolls Ancient-Lab-grade loot.

The Old Control Tower stands in Venge, east of the Ruined Control Tower and the Tower of Abuse. It is now home to the Scavengers, with their leader Gutterhead and seven followers living inside.

The place has been ransacked — that is very nearly the whole definition of this location. But "very nearly" is doing real work in that sentence.

The chest

A handful of small containers survived the looting, and one of them is a secured wooden chest.

What makes that chest interesting: it rolls loot on the Artifacts system at the same grade as an Ancient Lab. A broken tower that scavengers have been squatting in for who knows how long, containing one box none of them could open.

The item artifact budget is 6,000 Cats, and the gear budget is zero — no weapons or armour drop here.

TipThe two maps are the real prize. The Old Treasure Map points at lab-grade ruins (most often an Ancient Tech Lab), and the Engineers Map points at workshops (Post-Ancient Workshop 43%, Deadland Workshop 35%, Dead Workshop 17%, Workshop Complex 4%). One chest, two new routes.

Gutterhead and the Scavengers

The Scavengers are the most common ragtag bandits across the south-east of the map, specialising in robbing the unconscious and the dead. They are hostile to everyone and can beat almost nobody.

Gutterhead leads them. He is a Scorchlander in Shoddy armour (40% chance of Standard), carrying a Mercenary Club, a Tooth Pick and a Spring Bat. His wanted poster is handled by the United Cities, and his head is worth 10,000 Cats:

WANTED: Gutterhead. Leader of the Scavengers wanted for numerous attacks and robberies on the roads of Venge. Located south of the desert, beyond the Eye.

Counting him, there are eight people in the tower. For a five-figure bounty, this is the easiest target in Venge.

The Venge problem

The tower is not hard. Getting there alive is.

Venge is where the sky starts killing people the moment the sun comes up — an orbital satellite is still running, still executing a firing order nobody issued a thousand years ago. On the ground, thralls released from the Tower of Abuse walk in groups, alongside Beak Things, Blood Spiders and Iron Spiders.

NoteDiscussing Venge's ancient lab, the wiki floats a theory: the region's Burning weather may have something to do with the control tower itself — whether it is broken or still functioning. This is speculation; the game never states it.

What it means for the player

The Old Control Tower is a small-investment, certain-return target:

Clear it and you walk away with cash, research material and the coordinates for your next ruin, all at once.
