Thrall MastersReport

English:Thrall Masters · Factions

A bandit faction made up of reprogrammed skeletons, headquartered in the Tower of Abuse in Venge. They have nothing to do with the slave trade — the "thralls" here are wiped machine minds.

ImportantThis faction has nothing to do with the slave trade. The faction that buys and sells people is the Slave Traders. This article is about the Thrall Masters — and what they deal in is not people but reprogrammed machine minds.

The Thrall Masters are a bandit faction composed of reprogrammed (enthralled) Skeletons. They are found in Venge, and occasionally in the Grey Desert and The Eye. Their HQ is the Tower of Abuse.

What a Thrall is

The faction's product is the Thrall. Their race is the Skeleton No-Head MkII — headless, as the name says.

Thralls wear no armour at all, their inventories are always empty, and they carry a Staff, Long Cleaver or Horse Chopper manufactured by Ancient or the Skeleton Smiths. They do not speak, negotiate or loot — they are simply sent out to hit people.

There are two tiers in the faction, and Fandom's warning is specific: they are indistinguishable by appearance, and the only way to tell them apart is by checking their names.

The patrols you meet in the wilderness are Weak Thralls, in squads of 2 to 22. Inside the tower there are ten Weak Thralls plus five or more Thralls — the ones that actually matter.

NoteThink this through before entering the Tower of Abuse: the easy things outside look exactly like the things standing inside, but the combat stats are roughly double. Believing you are fighting Weak Thralls and running into a room of Thralls is the classic way this tower goes wrong.

What happens when you meet them

They will attack any character they see, including the player. No exceptions and no negotiation.

In practice that makes Venge near-impassable safely — it is already one of the most dangerous regions in the game, and Thrall Master patrols are a permanent fixture. Squad sizes range from 2 to 22, so a bad roll is a wall of headless skeletons walking at you.

The good news is that they neither eat people nor take slaves: they are machines, and once you are down they carry on patrolling. The bad news is that they do not loot either — so winning brings very little.

The +50 with the Skeleton Legion is worth noting. The Skeleton Legion is the surviving skeleton military organisation of the Second Empire, whose core is a mass of lobotomised Legion Thralls. Both factions use the same technique — wiping a skeleton's mind and putting it back — so it is no surprise they do not fight.

Put differently: at least two organisations on the continent are doing the same thing, and the Thrall Masters are the smaller and less ideologically dressed of the two.

The Tower of Abuse

The Tower of Abuse stands in Venge and is this faction's headquarters; both leaders, Screamer the False and Ponk, are inside.

The tower is also an Ancient Tech Lab and follows the Artifacts System loot rules. Its guaranteed "special items" are one Ancient Science Book and one AI Core, alongside plenty of Skeleton Repair Kits, Robotics Components, CPU Units, Generator Cores, Ancient Military Documents and more.

The top floor holds two Skeleton Repair Beds that can be used for free — after you clear the surrounding area.

The unique recruit Agnu can be rescued from the second level.

TipFandom records a farming trick: as long as either Screamer the False or Ponk remains alive and free, walking a good distance away and waiting will cause the tower's items and non-unique inhabitants to respawn. The tower can be emptied repeatedly.

The two leaders

Screamer the False and Ponk are the pair this site covers as the Voodoo Brothers. They are the faction's only two unique characters, and the makers of the thralls.
