Engineers MapReport
English:Engineers Map · Items & Equipment
A document left behind by an engineer of the old empire. Read it and one workshop appears on your map. It is the shortest route in the game to Engineering Research, and each copy works once.
This is an ancient document by an engineer of the old empire, it details potential sites where you could find Engineering Research. — in-game item description
The Engineers Map is a map item. It is a consumable: use it and a coordinate you did not previously know appears on the world map, and the paper is gone.
The reason it gets its own entry is Engineering Research. Researching everything in the game costs 19 of them, and only four workshops produce them reliably. This piece of paper is the shortest road to those four.
What it reveals
On use, the game picks one location at random from the table below. You do not get to choose.
| Target | Chance |
|---|---|
| Post-Ancient Workshop | 43.48% |
| Deadland Workshop | 34.78% |
| Dead Workshop | 17.39% |
| Workshop Complex | 4.35% |
All four are the same family of ruin, similar in layout and in what they hold. What differs is the garrison and the weather. The Post-Ancient Workshop has no permanent guards and sits in survivable conditions, and it is also the most likely roll, so this map usually brings good news. The Deadland Workshop is the opposite: acid rain, Broken Skeletons and rows of harpoon turrets. Rolling it means rolling a fight.
The Workshop Complex sits at 4.35%, which makes it the hardest of the four to meet this way. Buying maps until you have seen all four is not a good use of money.
Where you find it
Three kinds of ruin are guaranteed to spawn one:
- Lost Library — also guaranteed to hold an Old Treasure Map and Ancient Military Documents
- Lost Library Outpost — same three documents
- Old Control Tower — in the same container as the Old Treasure Map
The Tower of Abuse can also produce one, but it sits in the rarest tier of that location's loot table and should not be counted on as a source.
Shops that sell maps mostly stock the well-known settlements of the new world. The old, obscure coordinates still have to be dug out of ruins yourself.
What it means for you
The map weighs 0.2 kg. That is slightly unusual in Kenshi, where paper goods are normally weightless — the Old Map is 0 kg. Carrying a dozen of them is noticeable.
It sells for 500 Cats, which is not bad for something you picked up off the floor, but selling it is almost always a loss. What it buys you is a workshop that reliably produces Engineering Research, and one unit of that is worth 8,000 Cats on its own.
Note that it reveals the coordinate and nothing else. The Deadland Workshop and the Dead Workshop still have to be fought for after you have marked them. You still have to walk in and take them.
