Burning ForestReport
English:Burning Forest · Locations
Acid-rain swamp forest. No man’s land.
The name comes from the rain — it burns the skin off you, and this is the only acid-rain belt in the game that touches no polluted zone at all. Under the trees there are packs of Blood Spiders as well, and they kill you just as readily when it is dry.
Terrain
The terrain is Acid-rain swamp forest.

| Blood Spider | Hostile wildlife | Appearing at random throughout the region's swamp forest, with no fixed nest | The true owners of this forest. They are as thin as dead twigs and a dark blood red, and they hide among the vines and tree shadows, so you rarely spot them first — usually you hear the hissing and find you are already surrounded. A single one is fragile, but they come at you as a group — sometimes a small pack of adults, sometimes a swarm of a dozen to thirty young. They can walk along the bottom of water, so fleeing into water does not help; open ground is where you can outrun them. Anyone knocked out is drained dry on the spot. Having a character in the squad who swears loudly when spiders come close (Miu, for example) gives you one free extra alarm. |
| Security Spider | Hostile wildlife | The Ancient Labs in the forest (the Burning Forest lab) | The lab has not been stripped bare because these things inside are still moving. They are stronger than the Iron Spiders that wander the wilds, and they mostly appear in groups packed into cramped interiors, where a single swing can catch two characters standing close together at once, so spread the squad out before you go in. They are machines and will not eat you, but they also almost never leave those few rooms — pass out and wake up again, and you are still in the same place, still surrounded. |
History
- The United Cities once built a farm in these woods. Whoever built it presumably did not know that the rain here burns.
- The acid rain did not spread in from a neighbouring zone; the commonest guess is that it leaks out of the ancient lab standing in the forest itself.
Building a base here
The channel's verdict: Recommended with caveats
- Wind Unlike most swamp regions there is wind here, and it blows for long enough; even so, the video suggests going with hemp biofuel instead.[V1 0:01:07]
- Distance to supplies It sits near the middle of the map: small swamp villages to the west (both sites the video recommends are close enough to buy building materials nearby), Flats Lagoon to the east, and Catun and Mourn to the south — though heading south means taking a risk.[V1 0:00:35]

- Defensible terrain The terrain is very hard to work with: almost no level ground, so a site fit for a base is hard to find.[V1 0:05:02]
- Raids The main threat is Blood Spiders: they respawn at a very high rate, come in packs, bite hard, and have long attack reach, so they keep interrupting production at your base.[V1 0:02:47]
- Other The ecology is extremely thin — three animal species in the whole region and no human spawns; skins come only from Swamp Raptors, one per animal, so a leather industry is hard to scale up.[V1 0:01:39]
- Tax No faction comes for tribute or tax, and Paul Rogers reckons that is exactly the incentive to grow hemp and make hashish here.[V1 0:06:10]

- Hazards There is a whole season in which acid rain falls for days on end; flesh characters without acid protection take continuous damage.[V1 0:00:00]

- Other Overall the video pitches it as a mid-game settlement: harder than the Border Zone or Shem, but easier than Stobe's Garden or Greenbeach.[V1 0:06:43]
