Farm RuinReport

English:Farm Ruin · Locations

Two collapsed Storm Houses and three collapsed Small Shacks in the Burning Forest, on the United Cities' books. No residents, no shops, no loot at all — but the game still counts it as a United Cities location, and that fact has teeth if you build a base in this forest.

Farm Ruin is a location in the Burning Forest, made up of two destroyed Storm Houses and three destroyed Small Shacks that originally belonged to the United Cities.

Let's get the obvious out of the way:

NoteThere is no loot here. No containers, no residents, no shops, no beds. Searching the whole site yields nothing.

Why it is worth knowing about anyway

Because the entire Burning Forest contains exactly two named places. One is the Ancient Lab, which has loot and Security Spiders guarding it. The other is this. No towns, no outposts, not even bandit camps spawn in this zone. So Farm Ruin is not a destination — it is a landmark, and in a swamp forest where the trees eat your sightlines it is one of the few things that will tell you where you are.

And then there is the second reason, which bites.

The game still files it under "United Cities"

The wiki flags this in its trivia section: despite being a ruined settlement, this location can still spawn the United Cities' Elite Hunter Assault.

That only makes sense once you read the trigger conditions for the assault itself:

ConditionValue
PrerequisiteBeing an enemy of the United Cities
RangeLiving within 9,000 m of any United Cities location
Max chance per day15%
Repeat limit15 days
Who shows up3–5 Elite Hunters, plus one more leading them
Also requiredAt least one of Emperor Tengu, Lord Inaba, Lord Nagata, Lord Yoshinaga, Lady Sanda or Lady Tsugi must be alive and free

Which means: this "unclaimed" forest is not actually unclaimed. No patrols, no tax collectors, no walls — it looks like ideal player-base country. But if you are already at war with the Empire, five abandoned wrecks in a swamp are enough to give its hunters a heading.

TipBuilding in the Burning Forest? Site your base more than 9,000 m from Farm Ruin — or make sure you are still on speaking terms with the United Cities.

Who farms in an acid forest

This is the genuinely interesting part, and the wiki does not claim to have the answer either.

The Burning Forest is named for its rain. The rain here is acidic and burns unprotected skin, and this is the only acid zone in Kenshi that does not border another acid zone — the nearest one is the Deadlands, far away on the other side of the map. On the zone page, the wiki floats a guess about that: the acidity may have leaked out of the Ancient Lab sitting in this same forest.

On this page, the wiki's guess about the farm is: it was built either before the acid rain started, or by people who had no idea the hazard existed.

Put the two guesses side by side and you get a story nobody wrote down — a working farm first, then a leak. But the page is explicit that there is no direct lore indication of what actually caused the site to be abandoned. Speculation, not canon.

Before you walk in

The ruin will not kill you. The trip there might:

TipBring Miu. She calls out spiders on sight, which makes her a live spider radar — in a forest this dense that is worth more than another sword arm.

Is it worth a trip

No. There is nothing here to take.

The three reasons to open this page are: you are navigating the Burning Forest, you are planning a base here and need to measure that 9,000 m, or you are trying to work out whether you are looking at the other place with almost the same name.

Not to be confused with the one in Okran's Valley

NoteKenshi has two locations called "Farm Ruin(s)":
This one (Farm Ruin, singular) is in the Burning Forest, belongs to the United Cities, five wrecked buildings, no loot and no beds.
Farm Ruins (plural) sits at the northern tip of Okran's Valley, nominally Holy Nation ground, also loot-free — but it does have four free Camp Beds.
