EyegoreReport

English:Eyegore · Characters

The United Cities' supreme military commander, a Hiveless Soldier Drone out of the Southern Hive. The Empire treats him as the final answer to every problem.

Within the United Cities system, Captain-General Eyegore is not so much a general as a procedure: when every conventional measure has failed, the Empire sends him. Inside the Empire it is widely believed that he is the final answer to any problem.

The player's side of the impression is visible in the way he is introduced: a foul-tempered Southern Hive drone, "the Butcher of Black Scratch", and the Emperor's instrument of force[V1 0:00:44].

A Drone Out of the South

Eyegore is a Southern Hive Soldier Drone, and Hiveless — an individual severed from the Queen's influence and possessed of a complete self.

The Southern Hive has its own territory and villages, but Southerners who have left the hive are exceptionally rare: they call everything outside their land "the Faraway", and treat anything that comes from it — including Hiveless of their own kind — as something to be devoured or sacrificed. On the Empire's side of the map, Southern individuals mostly turn up only sporadically as slaves, and Espher is the one guaranteed Southern Hive recruit in the game. When United Cities bar patrons mention Eyegore, there is an unmistakable note of unfamiliarity:

You know, they got Eyegore out of the Southern Hive. Those southerners, they're a whole different kind of stick-man...

His name follows the Hiveless naming convention too — named after the first thing seen after leaving the hive. "Eyegore" is widely read as a double meaning: close to the human name "Igor", and pointing at some incident involving a gouged eye that the game never depicts. As for the details of that incident, the game never says a word.

The Empire's Last Resort

The United Cities' military and police force is made up of Samurai, and Eyegore is regarded as among the most skilled warriors anywhere inside the Empire. In tavern dialogue his official status gets shortened to "Captain Eyegore".

One peculiarity is that his affiliation is not fixed: he may appear under the United Cities banner or under the Traders Guild flag. Only three unique leaders in the entire game spawn across factions like this; the other two are the Stone Golem Esata (Shek Kingdom / Kral's Chosen) and Boss Simion (Rebel Farmers / Empire Peasants). That fact alone says a great deal about how blurred the line between Empire and Guild really is.

Eyegore's Assault

Eyegore does not sit in a city waiting for the player to come to him. He crashes into the player's life as an assault event, Eyegore's Assault.

The trigger is a serious offence against the Empire: killing or kidnapping Emperor Tengu, killing or kidnapping the Guild's Longen, or being retaliated against after beating off an Elite Hunter Assault.

The three triggers differ wildly in scale:

TriggerScale
Emperor Tengu3–9 squads, roughly 80 troops, map-wide, 200% daily trigger weight
Longen2 squads, roughly 20 troops, chance falls off with distance
Retaliation2–4 squads, roughly 35 troops

The squad Eyegore leads in person has a fixed composition: 1 Samurai Captain, 2 Samurai Sergeants, 3 Samurai Heavies, 1 Samurai Scout and 10 Samurai. For sheer headcount the Tengu variant is tied with two other assault events for the largest in the game.

Once the force arrives, Eyegore exchanges a short piece of dialogue with his subordinates — the content varies with the trigger and with faction relations — and then the fighting starts. If the player has killed (rather than captured) an Imperial noble, he cuts his own speech short and attacks early.

TipThe line about destroying everything you hold dear is just rhetoric. Mechanically Eyegore's Assault behaves like any other raid; it will not actually tear down player structures.

If the player is allied with the Anti-Slavers, the Rebel Farmers or the Shek Kingdom, the assault triggers the corresponding reinforcement event — all three are happy to watch the Empire's army take a beating.

Numbers

Eyegore is one of the very few units in the game that breaks the human ceiling:

Toughness above 102 has one concrete consequence: his wound degradation rate is negative — meaning his injuries heal on their own without bandaging. That makes a war of attrition extremely favourable to him. His attack level ties with the Armour King's Thralls for the highest of any humanoid in the game, higher even than Cat-Lon.

He carries a Meitou-grade Desert Sabre — the only way to obtain that Meitou in the game, and one of the main reasons players choose to eat this assault head-on. His armour is [Specialist] grade with a 22% chance of being [Masterwork].

After He Goes Down

Eyegore carries no cash bounty, but he can be handed in, and the various reactions are worth reading.

Handed to the Holy Nation: the player gains +25 with the Holy Nation and −25 with the United Cities.

Handed to Grey or Tinfist of the Anti-Slavers (+25 with the Anti-Slavers): neither celebrates. What they express is pity, and they discuss whether it might be worth trying to bring him over to their side. That exchange is the only depth this character is given — in his enemies' eyes he is not a monster but a Hiveless individual the Empire fetched out of the Southern Hive and put to use as a weapon.

If Eyegore has already been killed or imprisoned, later final offensives substitute an Elite Hunter squad in his place. Either way, dealing with him permanently ends the Eyegore's Assault event.
