Notable units
| Name | Type | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron Spider | Hostile wildlife | Roaming the entire coastline, in large groups of four to eighteen, and as lone individuals as well | Machine spiders left behind by the Old Machines. They attack anything alive on sight, friend or foe alike. They will not eat you, but their claws are made for taking limbs off, and a character in Light Armour who goes down with no one to give first aid immediately will usually die where they fall. In numbers they come in wave after wave, and an unprepared squad is easily swamped. |
| ErrorCode 0x000000 | Hostile squad | Dead Fishing Village (thirty or more) and Police Barracks (Cheaters Run) | Old Empire police robots still on duty. The moment they see you they shout "Police!" while swinging at you, and they also want to "arrest" you. The Dead Fishing Village is two Watchtowers plus four Old Storm Houses; disturb any one of them and the robots from every other building pour out to close in on you. Running away does not end it either — they will chase you across most of the map, and even the crippled and the knocked-out ones keep coming. |
| Gurgler | Hostile squad | Patrolling along the coastline (while King Gurgler is still alive) | A large horde that crawls up out of the sea; a single patrol is twenty to forty of them. One on its own is nothing, but the numbers pile up and become hard to handle. They carry anyone they knock out back to the nest, tie them to a pole and eat them alive, so going down here is worse than being cut down. Once King Gurgler is dead, this patrol stops appearing. |
| Alpha Gurgler | Hostile squad | Mixed in with Fishman patrols, zero to three of them | The genuinely troublesome ones in the patrol: their limb durability and their health are both twice those of their ordinary companions. There are very few of them, but they really can hold their ground and fight you head-on. Like their companions they are bare-handed, carrying no weapons and wearing no equipment. |
| Skin Bandit | Hostile squad | Horrible Ruin (marked on the map as Nice Ruin when seen from a distance; the name only changes once you get close) | Skeletons wearing human skin. They take people in order to haul them back to the 剝皮機: the limbs come off first, and in the end you die inside it. When the ones in the ruins see you, one of them walks over and speaks to you first; once he has finished, every companion nearby is called to your position — if you strike first, or you are already on hostile terms with them, they are not called over. They pick out organic beings: Skeleton, Shek and Hive characters are not attacked on sight, but once a fight breaks out there, they hit the neutral ones as well. |
History
- Old Empire police units still hold the Dead Fishing Village and the Police Barracks, shouting “POLICE” over a statute book a thousand years dead and trying to arrest whoever walks past.
- From a distance it reads as a perfectly decent ruin; only up close does it turn out to be a Skin Bandit nest — about the one joke the game ever plays on the player.
- The coast kept the name “Cheaters” because adventurers use it to skirt the Royal Valley and Sniper Valley and smuggle themselves into the Ashlands.
