BrinkReport
English:Brink · Locations
A United Cities major town wedged onto the Stormgap Coast. It produces nothing of its own, hangs off a single supply line from Eyesocket, and gets Reaver patrols at the gates - a town that lives up to its name.
Brink is a Major Town of the United Cities on the Stormgap Coast. It has walls, a police station, bars and a weapon shop — on the Empire's administrative map it counts as a proper city. But everything the town eats and sells arrives along one road, and the regulars outside the gate are Reaver patrols. For a player it is a rare resupply point in the northern wastes, and a resupply point that can collapse at any time.
You can reach it by exploration, or reveal it by acquiring and reading the Map of the United Cities (Central Territories).
Position and surroundings
Brink sits on the Stormgap Coast, next door to Venge — the scorched valley swept by orbital death lasers during daylight. That neighbour is not just a geographical detail: the common reading among players is that half the meaning of the town's name is that it sits right on the brink of those lasers' reach.
Which puts Brink on two edges at once: the edge of the Empire's territory, and the edge of terrain that kills.
One artery: Eyesocket
Brink's economy relies solely on supplies from Eyesocket. Not mostly — solely.
That has a blunt mechanical consequence: cut the line and the town starves. The walls stay up, the police stay on duty, but the people go hungry and the shelves go empty. For anyone running long trade routes through the northern United Cities, Brink's stock is among the most volatile in the Empire — it has no second leg to stand on.
Who runs the place
Brink is locally governed by Lady Tsugi. She is not a decorative noble: the town's patrol allocation and its homeless population are both tied to her data, so killing or imprisoning her visibly changes the streets in this region.
By overall patrol spawn value, Brink ranks fifth of the six northern United Cities towns — Tsugi's homeless spawn value is 36. In other words it is second-smallest of the northern UC towns. Major Town on paper; thin garrison in practice.
Danger: Reavers at the gate
It is not unusual to see Reaver patrols near Brink. That crowd flies the banner of overthrowing the United Cities nobility while running on kidnapping and slave soldiers, and the people they take do not end up in a prison.
Town overrides
Brink can be affected by several World States, producing three distinct overrides:
| Override | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Malnourished | The starving-town state after the supply line breaks |
| Reavers | Reavers displace the Empire as the real power here |
| Destroyed | The town itself is wrecked |
None of these are guaranteed sights in a normal playthrough, but all three hang on the same fact: this town's survival depends heavily on conditions it does not control.
Trivia
- Brink existed in the alpha version of the game, and back then it was the player's starting town. New characters land elsewhere in the release build, but this city is older than most of the ones players know well.
- "Brink" means edge, or the point of being about to fall. One reading is that it marks the outermost edge of United Cities territory; another is that it stands exactly at the edge of the death lasers from neighbouring Venge. Both work, and the game never settles it.
- Exactly one building in town is for sale, at 24,000 Cats. Players looking to buy property on the Stormgap Coast have very little choice here.
