Rebirth SlavesReport

English:Rebirth Slaves · Factions

The faction label attached to the prisoners of Rebirth. Every race is in there except Skeletons — the Holy Nation holds that they have no soul, and therefore cannot be reborn.

Toil hard for Okran's mercy, serve Okran's cause, repent for your wicked ways — Holy Sentinel

"Rebirth Slaves" is not strictly an organisation. It is the faction label the Holy Nation attaches to the prisoners held at Rebirth.

NoteThis label is distinct from the Lower Servants in the Holy Mines, even though both are Holy Nation forced-labour populations. "Rebirth Slaves" always means the Rebirth population specifically.

Who is in there

Every race except Skeletons can be found here — the Holy Nation does not consider Skeletons to have a soul, so in their theology a Skeleton cannot be reborn at all.

The race weights are wildly uneven:

RaceRelative weight
Shek500
Greenlander100
Scorchlander50
Hive Worker Drone20
Hive Soldier Drone10
Hive Prince5

The Shek majority is not random. The wiki notes that Shek Rebirth Slaves carry the same faction colour as the Shek Kingdom and will dye worn armour that colour — strongly suggesting they are prisoners of war taken while raiding inside Holy Nation lands, drawn from the Shek Kingdom, Kral's Chosen and the Berserkers. The rest are human bandits and criminals, plus a few Western Hivers who bumbled into Holy Nation territory.

What is done to them

Officially they are sentenced to a life of servitude, prayer and hard labour, which is supposed to help them be reborn as "righteous" humans thanks to their service to the god Okran.

In practice it is a religious re-education camp. They quarry and build by day and go back in the cages at night. Anyone caught escaping — or attempting to — is attacked by the Holy Nation guards, and alarms may be raised.

Unlocking the shackles: three reactions

Rebirth Slaves can become Slave Recruits. Pick the cage, the prisoner pole and the shackles, keep them safe for a while afterwards, and they will join you.

But you cannot tell in advance which kind you have:

  1. Unwilling to escape. They do not react to an unlocked cage, and once unshackled they are afraid of what the guards will do. This type is useful for training Lockpicking and Assassination.
  2. Willing, and will follow you. Once the cage or pole is unlocked they will ask your character to undo the shackles, then follow their liberator. If the escape succeeds — or if they get far enough before being caught — the chance of them joining is high.
  3. Willing, but will run alone. With both locks picked they bolt on their own.
NoteOnly unlock types 2 and 3 when you can actually get them out. Prisoners who have failed a few escapes tend to run off alone, take more beatings, and can lose limbs — or die outright if the guards forget to re-cage or heal them.

World state: the whole label disappears

Rebirth Slaves do not patrol any zone. They exist only as prisoners inside Rebirth.

Their existence is therefore tied entirely to that camp: if Holy Lord Phoenix, High Inquisitor Valtena and High Inquisitor Seta are all killed or imprisoned, Rebirth is overwritten and the Rebirth Slaves faction stops existing.

Mechanically, then, "liberating Rebirth" does not release anybody. It deletes the label and the camp together.
