No-FaceReport

English:No-Face · Characters

The only resident of a small island in the Gut, and the only human in the Gutters faction. He has had enough of politics, so he moved to one of the most dangerous regions on the continent and shoots anyone he sees.

"I've had it with politics! Enough, you hear?! A pack of idiots lying to each other. I'm out."

No-Face is the only human member of the Gutters faction. He lives at the Strange Camp on a small island within the Gut, and he is the only person on that island.

A faction branch of one

The Gutters faction's member list has exactly two entries: Beak Things, and No-Face. This is not a typo — that is how the game files are written. He is filed alongside a flock of giant birds that swallow people whole, and he is evidently doing fine.

The primary fauna of the Gut are Beak Things, and the region is thick with their nests — which makes it extremely dangerous and extremely profitable at once. Sky-blue sands, Iron Trees dotted across it, no major towns, no ancient locations, and a zone that spawns neither camps nor homeless wanderers. The island he picked is the quietest corner of this beast-ridden land.

He opens fire the moment you land

The Strange Camp itself holds only a Scrap Tent, a Sitting Box and a Camp Bed, which the player can use for free. He does not trade; his one greeting is "GO AWAY!", and he attacks anyone who wanders onto his island.

The sequence in practice is almost fixed: as the boat touches shore he opens fire at range with the Oldworld Bow MkI — an advanced crossbow the Tech Hunters build from salvaged old-world blueprints, with good range and accuracy; once the player closes to melee range he switches to his Skeleton Smiths longsword.

NoteHis stats are not decoration: Toughness 67–73, Dexterity 73–80, every weapon skill 67–73, Athletics 80–87. Charging up a beach with no cover into incoming bolts takes more than courage.

A 15,000-Cat bounty, but no poster

His head is worth 15,000 Cats, accepted by both the United Cities and the Rebel Swordsmen, each giving +2 reputation.

TipHe is filed under the "bounties without posters" list — the money genuinely exists, but the player will never see his face on any noticeboard. To collect it you have to already know where he is.

Given his complaint about politics, a wanted man with no poster hiding on an uninhabited island suits the character rather well. Exactly who he offended in the United Cities, and why the sum is what it is, the game never explains at all.

An obscure trick: buying him out

The thing most worth remembering is a mechanic almost nobody stumbles across on their own: repeatedly buying him out of the slave market can turn the player neutral with the Gutters faction.

What does that mean? The Gutters faction includes every Beak Thing. Once neutral with the faction, those giant predators that chase the player across the Bonefields, the Cannibal Plains, the Leviathan Coast and the Gut will stop attacking the squad. For a player who has to move around the north, that is very cheap protection money.

One small detail of colour

His character file has a colour scheme attached, so his armour and clothing are tinted according to that scheme — and the scheme is named sheks, the one used by the Shek Kingdom. A Scorchlander living alone on an uninhabited island, wearing Shek colours. The game offers no explanation.
