The Edgewalkers were a group of smiths from the old fallen empire hundreds of years ago. Little is known about them except that their weapons have survived these hundreds of years in near-perfect condition and their quality is unrivalled by anything crafted in the modern age. — in-game description
The Edgewalkers are a weapon manufacturer, not a faction, not a place, and nobody alive. When an article's infobox says "weapon manufactured by the Edgewalkers" or "Edgewalkers-grade Wakizashi", it is telling you the weapon's origin and therefore its grade — the same kind of label as Meitou.
Every weapon in Kenshi records who made it, and the manufacturer sets its damage and price multipliers. The Edgewalkers are among the highest: 1.4× price, 1.1× cut damage, everything else unchanged. In practice that means an Edgewalkers weapon on an enemy tells you the enemy is dangerous, rich, or both — United Cities nobles and named bounties usually carry this grade.
Three models
Edge Type 1, Edge Type 2, Edge Type 3, in ascending order.
- Edge Type 1 is the only one that spawns as an Artifact in ruins.
- Edge Type 2 and above must be bought or stolen from the Scraphouse.
Since version 0.99 the Edgewalker grade is researchable, but player-made Edgewalker weapons are weaker than the looted equivalents, and only the first two types can be made at all. The real thing still comes out of a ruin or the Scraphouse.
Trivia
"Edgewalker" is a character in the Malazan Book of the Fallen, a series Chris Hunt has named as one of the inspirations for the world of Kenshi.
