Noble HunterReport

English:Noble Hunter · Characters

A United Cities noble out to "try my new bow", trailing a Noble Captain, six hooded guards and a string of slaves. What he hunts is people — and Skeletons are the prize trophy.

Time to try out my new bow! This bad boy cost more than you could ever earn in a lifetime, you know. — Noble Hunter

Noble Hunters are unnamed United Cities nobles who carry Diplomatic Status. Their formation is fixed: a Noble Captain, six Hooded Empire Noble Guards, and a number of slaves.

They spawn in Stormgap Coast, The Great Desert and The Hook — but only while Emperor Tengu has not been killed or imprisoned.

What they hunt

Noble Hunters hunt purely for sport. The wiki records one distinctly unpleasant detail: they appear to decapitate their prize and mount the heads, the way one would with animals, and they have dialogue implying as much when the target is female.

And Skeletons are high-value trophies to them — firing on one triggers unique dialogue.

NoteThey brag that their crossbow was made by Skeleton Smiths or Edgewalkers. In game, crossbow grades are actually determined like armour rather than by manufacturer the way ordinary weapons are — the line is flavour, not mechanics.

When he will open fire on you

The wiki lists the full trigger conditions straight out of the FCS. The last one is the useful one:

TipThat last line is the answer: ally with the Traders Guild or the United Cities and Noble Hunters will not use you for target practice. If you plan to work those three zones for any length of time, that is far cheaper than winning the fights.

The slaves in the column

ImportantWhen you retaliate, the accompanying slaves will attack you too. But if you defeat the noble and his guards before knocking the slaves down, those slaves may escape — or join you outright. The order you do it in decides the outcome.

Bounty and combat

A Noble Hunter's bounty is 0 Cats, redeemable with the Holy Nation. Turning one in buys reputation only (+2 Holy Nation relations, +5 under pure faith) and no money at all.

On combat: Perception and all three ranged stats sit at 60–80, Toughness and Dexterity at 40–60, melee at 40–60, and Strength at only 20–40. Gear starts at Specialist grade with a 10% chance to upgrade, comprising a Noble's Robe, a Blackened Chain Shirt, Ashlander Stormgoggles and Noble's Trousers, with an Advanced First Aid Kit and Bolts Longs in the pack.
