The Shek warlord of the Reavers, with a head worth fifty thousand Cats — one of the highest bounties on the continent. Everyone he abducts is pressed into his ranks, and he opens with the line "today is your lucky day".
What's this?! …A new recruit? Well then, my sister, today is your lucky day!
Valamon is the leader of the Reavers and a male Shek. He rules from the Reaver capital of Ark, positioned slightly north of the centre of Stobe's Garden.
What he wants
The Reavers' claim is that the people who ought to be sitting on top are them, not the United Cities. Valamon himself has given that argument a rather fine-sounding version —
We will plunder the fat nobles and the ignorant cowards… so that our brothers never go hungry again.
In practice, their method is to capture everyone and press them into the ranks, throw them onto a battlefield to prove their worth, and let them die there if they cannot. It is generally held that a good many of the Reavers' senior members were themselves former slaves taken this way, and now use the same method to turn other people into what they became.

The values carry a random ±3. Melee Attack close to 100 means he almost never misses, while Toughness close to 100 means he is extremely hard to finish off once down and will get back up again. His armour is Specialist (25% chance of Masterwork) — a Hack Stopper Jacket, black cloth shirt, Hack Stopper Trousers and Samurai Boots — and his weapon comes from Cross, making him one of the few individuals in the game with both defence and output pushed to the ceiling.
The Longsword in his hands is Meitou quality and always drops.
World states
Valamon sits in one of the densest world-state webs in the game. While he is alive and free:
- If Lady Tsugi dies → the Reavers take over Brink and begin patrolling the Stormgap Coast and the Eye; if Lord Yoshinaga is also out of the picture → they patrol Heng as well.
- If the Crab Queen dies → the Reavers take over Crab Village.
- If Lady Tsugi, Emperor Tengu and Valtena are all dead → the Reavers take over Okran's Shield.
After he is killed or captured:
- Ark is taken over by the Crab Raiders (provided the Crab Queen is still around); if the Crab Queen is out of the picture too, Ark is left with nothing but a band of squatters.
- The Reaver camps are taken over by the Southern Hive (provided the Southern Hive Queen is alive and free); if the Queen is gone as well, every camp collapses into ruins.
- The "Blooded Raid" event stops firing.
- The Reavers stop raiding the player's outpost.
