Goat Herder's CampReport

English:Goat Herder's Camp · Locations

A small camp pitched at random by one goat herder and his herd. No walls, no guards, nobody checking who you are, and camp beds on the ground you can sleep in for free — for an early squad that cannot afford a house yet, remembering where one of these is beats remembering where any city is.

A Goat Herder's Camp is a randomly spawning Nomad camp. It is not a fixed dot on the map — it appears in a handful of regions once the world is running. Walk past and it is there; come back later and it may not be.

Where it turns up

Seven regions: the Border Zone, Darkfinger, Dreg, the Hidden Forest, the Northern Coast, Shem and Sinkuun.

Line that list up against the map and one thing stands out: every one of them is a region with no major city and the worst supply situation in the game. The camps spawning there is not a coincidence.

What is in the camp

One goat herder, a herd of goats, and a few camp beds. You can lie down in them straight away — no payment, no conversation first.

The game data holds two squads:

SquadGoatsAge multiplier
Goat Herder4–16one or two at 0.0–0.1x (newborn), the rest at 0.9–1.0x
Goat Herder Camp4–10all at 0.4–0.9x

So the herd you walk into usually has a couple of newborns mixed in. The ground also spawns Dung.

Why it matters

TipThis is the best rest stop in the early game. Beds in town cost money or goodwill, and sleeping rough in the open gets you eaten; a Goat Herder's Camp needs neither — free, unguarded, and spawning in exactly the regions with the least infrastructure. When you find one, note where it was.

Beyond a bed, this is the front end of the Nomad economy: the goats raised here are what eventually get sold through the Nomad Animal Trader. If you are buying a pack animal, though, you will usually meet the caravan in a town rather than at a camp like this.

The herder himself is neutral. Unless you start something, nothing happens.
