Cannibal Grand WizardReport
English:Cannibal Grand Wizard · Characters
Nominal overlord of every cannibal on the continent and a 40,000-Cat target wanted by four powers at once; yet when he falls, nothing in the world changes.
"So much meat."
The Cannibal Grand Wizard is, on paper, the supreme leader of the Cannibals. He lives in a hut at the deepest point of the Cannibal Capital, and he is one of the few characters in the game whose title carries more presence than the man himself.
Three blank lines on the wanted poster
His bounty notice offers 40,000 Cats, but the poster carries only three lines of intelligence: he is the leader of the entire known cannibal population; whether he actually has magical powers is unknown; his location is unknown.
In other words, the authorities do not even know where he lives. That ignorance is the Cannibal Plains in miniature — a land rich in water, iron and stone that no army has ever truly entered.
The bounty can be turned in to the United Cities, the Holy Nation, the Shek Kingdom or Rebel Swordsmen, each giving +2 relations; waiving the money with the Holy Nation raises that to +5.
An overlord in name, an ornament in fact
That is genuinely rare in Kenshi. Bosses of comparable rank — Emperor Tengu, Tinfist, Longen — bring the survival of several cities into question the moment they fall; the Grand Wizard dies and the world does not react. Haul him to The Bastion, the Cannibal Hunters' stronghold, and the hunters there do not even have dedicated dialogue for him. One reading holds that this is precisely how the developers positioned the cannibals: not as a polity, but as an ecology.
That chest plate of his
On his back he carries an Ancient-made Moon Cleaver (a recurved blade built to hook limbs and necks, favoured by the Preacher Cult and a handful of madmen), yet he wears a Holy Chest Plate — standard issue for Holy Nation Paladins. The game never explains how it made its way to the Cannibal Plains, though the cannibals' most famous habit is dragging intruders back to the village to be carved up in instalments.
The journal in the hut
The chest in the Grand Wizard's hut hides one of the most distressing texts in the game: the four volumes of the Captive's Journal. This is the only place they can be obtained.
The author was a caravan member whose whole family was dragged into a cannibal village in the night. For the first few days he was still recording: they beat the captives, then bandaged the captives' wounds. On the fourth day a piece was cut from his uncle; on the eighth the uncle was dead, and what remained of him became the cannibals' breakfast. From the thirteenth day the handwriting begins to break down — he writes that their eyes are not human eyes, that they are whirlpools. By the twenty-first day the page holds nothing but "Meat. Meat. I. Am. Meat." repeated over and over.
The last entry is lucid. He has hidden away a length of wire, and he writes that he is going to get his brother out. His brother's name is Robun.
That Robun survived. He went on to lead the Cannibal Hunters, based at The Bastion, selling mercenary services (3,000 Cats per day) and dedicated to fighting the cannibals. Not a single line of dialogue points out this chain of cause and effect; the player has to match the journal to the name unaided.
Combat
His Strength, Toughness, Dexterity and six weapon skill classes all fall in the 44–56 band (randomising by ±6), which is top-tier for a cannibal but only mid-table among the game's bosses. The real difficulty was never the man himself but reaching him — the Cannibal Capital is permanently garrisoned by large numbers of Cannibals and Scrawny Cannibals, with two Cannibal Chiefs (each carrying a 10,000-Cat bounty) at his side and at least four in the city.
