SquinReport

English:Squin · Locations

The Shek Kingdom's town in the Border Zone, wedged into a narrow canyon directly east of the capital Admag. Powered entirely by wind, blacked out constantly, and roughly two orders of magnitude smaller than the capital — but its bar holds the densest concentration of unique recruits in the game.

Squin is the Shek Kingdom's town in the Border Zone, the whole settlement wedged into a narrow canyon directly east of the capital, Admag. To find it you either explore your way there or read the Map of the Shek Kingdom.

Its role in the flow of the game is clear enough: it is the only genuinely functioning city in the Border Zone. The Hub is a ruin and the Rebel Base is one building, while Squin has an armour shop, a weapon shop, a general store, a travel gear shop, two bars and a police station. For a squad starting on the frontier, Squin is usually the first place where everything is actually for sale.

A town driven into a crack

The siting is very Shek: rather than look for open ground, they drove the town into a gap between rock walls, so that the wall only has to seal the mouth of the canyon. The layout makes it easy to hold and hard to assault, and makes the whole place look as though it grew out of the stone.

There are mineable iron and copper resources outside — standard for the Border Zone. So are the hazards: Dust Bandits and Hungry Bandits roam the region and will harass unsuspecting wanderers.

The town with no batteries

Squin carries one unusual piece of design detail: the entire town is powered by wind and nothing else.

The problem is the lack of batteries in the city. Wind speed naturally oscillates, and with no batteries there is no buffer — so Squin suffers power outages fairly frequently. That is not a bug, it is the design. It also doubles as a demonstration of Kenshi's base-building logic: generating power is half the job, and storing it is the half that keeps machines actually running.

The bar: the densest recruiting ground in the game

What Squin's bar is famous for is the density of unique recruits. All of the following have a chance to appear here:

For an early squad, this makes Squin not just a supply stop but a hiring hall.

Pacifier

The Flotsam Ninjas Pacifier can be found here. If you have wrecked your standing with the Flotsam Ninjas, this is where you go to repair it.

Population: about one percent of the capital

The wiki makes an interesting deduction about Squin's size. Every Shek Warrior and Kamikaze squad status is tied to Esata, who governs Admag; the only spawn status tied directly to Squin is the token Kamikaze force in the Stenn Desert, and even that only exists under the Mukai world state.

Read backwards from the game data, then, Squin can be considered around a hundred times smaller than Admag in population. It is the Kingdom's frontier town, not its second capital.

Town overrides

Squin can be affected by multiple World States, producing three override versions:

VersionNotes
MukaiThe town falls to Mukai the Mountain
Kral's ChosenThe town falls to Kral's Chosen
BerserkersThe town falls to the Berserkers

The three names amount to a political spectrum in themselves: once Esata's thread is cut, everyone who takes Squin is someone who wants to drag the Shek back to the old way of doing things.
