Smugglers BarReport

English:Smugglers Bar · Locations

A fencing operation dressed as a bar, out in the Shem oasis. It is the only settlement the Grayflayers directly control and it is not in the Swamp. It buys illegal goods, never closes, and has a row of free beds upstairs.

The Smugglers Bar is an outpost bar belonging to the Grayflayers, located in Shem.

It is the only settlement this faction directly controls — and it is not in the Swamp. A swamp gang running its fencing window outside the swamp is worth noting on its own.

What Shem is

Shem is a sandy oasis — 70% water, maximum fertility, and no government collecting taxes. On paper it is the most habitable place on the map.

The price is that the thing that spawns most heavily here is the Beak Thing, alongside Dust Bandits and Starving Bandits. The zone has exactly two outposts: the Settled Nomads, and the Smugglers Bar.

Beyond the residents, the location is likely to spawn a Smuggler Caravan or a Mercenary Guild squad.

Bar squads here also produce recruitable characters: Recruit, Adventurer Recruit, Fighter Recruit, Amateur Recruit, Bard, Ex-Slave Recruit, Outlaw Recruit, Tenacious Recruit, Recruit Seeking Revenge, Silvershade, Outlaw Medic, Engineer Recruit, Wall Man and Medic Recruit — plus Flotsam Ninjas, Ninjas, Sand Ninjas, Dust Bandits and Hungry Bandits.

TipShort of kidnapping Big Gray, the Grayflayers have no reason to be hostile to the player. Each Smuggler has roughly a 5% chance of carrying a United Cities bounty of a little over two thousand — extra income, but think about what it costs before you take it.

What business it does

The Smugglers Bar buys illegal items. That is why it exists, and it is its whole position on the map.

The vendor has a refresh time of 24 hours and a fill total of 50. Like all bars, it does not close for the night.

There is an easily missed restriction, though: the bar belongs to the Grayflayers, so it is governed by the Swamper Trade Culture — despite not being in the swamp at all. That trade culture restricts what it can stock, and the list is correspondingly thin:

ItemAverage priceChance
Bloodrum1,328 CatsRare
Dried Fish360 CatsCommon
Gohan324 Cats (25% off)Common
Dried Meat78 CatsCommon
Water Jug30 CatsCommon
Water25 CatsCommon

Gohan sells at 25% off here — one of the very few fixed discounts in the game.

The beds upstairs

This is the Smugglers Bar's most practical feature: the upstairs section provides a wide array of free beds, suitable for larger parties.

Shem sits next to Venge, and Venge is a dead zone with no resupply of any kind. For a squad going in or coming out, the Smugglers Bar is the nearest bed — free, and with no faction to please.

What it means for the player

The bar's value has three layers:

  1. An exit for stolen goods. The only fixed location in the north-east that buys illegal items, regardless of hour or provenance.
  2. Free beds. The obligatory rest stop for anyone working Venge.
  3. Recruitment and hire. Bar squads roll a dozen-plus recruitable types, and Mercenary Guild squads stop here regularly.
NoteDo not confuse the Grayflayers (one of the five Swamp gangs, human) with the Skin Bandits (Skeletons wearing human skin). Both names involve flaying. They are entirely unrelated.
