The Protector of the Flame is an elite Paladin of the Holy Nation, tasked with guarding Holy Lord Phoenix in his throne room at Blister Hill.
Picking him out
Phoenix is surrounded by an entourage of High Paladins, and the Protector stands among them. What tells him apart is not his gear but his build — his stats are so high that his model is visibly bulkier than the men beside him.
Do not underestimate that circle
He is one of the highest-stat characters in the game. Before racial modifiers that is Strength 100, combat stats 90 and unarmed stats 50, randomised by ±3.
Because of that ±3, his Strength can end up above 100.
His equipment is fixed at High grade with a 10% upgrade chance, and his weapon is Ancient-made: a Paladin's Cross with a Holy Chest Plate, Paladins Heavy Hachigane, Chain Shirt, Stout Hessian Uniform and Plated Longboots. He also carries his own colour scheme — the colour is attached to him personally rather than to the faction.
Killing him does not reduce the count
This is the detail worth remembering. He is flagged as Unique in the data, but he also has a unique replacement spawn of his own — kill him, and in time another Protector of the Flame will fill the post.
And if the squad size multiplier is raised, the throne room can hold several Protectors at once.
