English:Howler Maze · Locations
Green hill islands. Unclaimed.

Islands joined to the mainland by a few land bridges that sit under the water. There was a town up here once; now there are crabs and crab nests. The Second Empire's Archive Town is still standing, and behind the doors that still open there is usually a nest.

|---|---|---|---|
| Megacrab | Hostile boss | Lost Town | One of the largest crabs in the game, close to 1,400 health, and it lives nowhere but Lost Town in the Howler Maze. The ganglions are the only unique loot on these islands worth a dedicated trip; the body also yields 20 units of foul raw meat. |
| Escaped Slave | Recruitable | Wanders the islands (drifting in from the surrounding United Cities territory) | The only people you will meet on these islands besides the crabs; catch one alone and you can talk them into joining for nothing, or hand them to the United Cities for a reliable 2,000 Cats. |
History
- There was a town on the island once; not even its name is left. A skeleton walking past can only manage “almost nothing left of it”.
- Archive Town and the Looted Ruins are both Second Empire work, and that empire's archive is guarded now by crabs.
Building a base here
The channel's verdict: Recommended with caveats
- Other The terrain is uneven and the usable flat ground is mostly on the coast; the flat patch north of the Avalon Isles is enough to start on, but will not carry a very large base.[V1 0:02:11]

- Raids Day to day the only threat is crabs, so Paul Rogers reckons there is no need to sink much into fortifications.[V1 0:06:40]
- Raids The south, though, gets raided by Reavers and Crab Raiders at roughly Stormgap Coast intensity — they will swim across the water to reach you. The north and the Avalon Isles do not have that problem.[V1 0:06:07]
- Raids A wandering Megacrab also roams the middle of the Howler Maze — have ranged weapons ready before you go near it.[V1 0:03:18]
- Tax No faction holds the zone, so there is nobody to pay tax to — the way Paul Rogers puts it, not even the taxman can find you out here.[V1 0:00:33]
- Hazards Acid rain does fall, but in his experience it is not constant. His fix is to run an all-Hiver/Skeleton squad, or a Rattan Hat with a Dustcoat — he puts the acid resistance you need at around 70%.[V1 0:01:06]
- Distance to supplies It is about as isolated as the Leviathan Coast, but sitting halfway down the east coast it is closer to Trader's Edge and Heng than the Leviathan Coast is.[V1 0:05:01]
- Other Unlike the neighbouring Gut, no Beak Things appear here.[V1 0:05:34]
