Gatherer VillageReport

English:Gatherer Village · Locations

Two surviving Deadcat fishing hamlets in Dreg, one open to the world and one fenced shut. Neither has a shop; the only thing you can buy here is fish, from a settler who would rather you did not hit him.

The Gatherer Villages are two small settlements in Dreg, inhabited by Deadcat fishermen — a people whose town fell long ago, and whose old home is now the Cannibal Capital. The handful of households scattered through Dreg and the Northern Coast are all they have left.

There are only two settlements of this type in the world, both west of Mongrel.

The eastern village

The Eastern Gatherer Village consists of three residential buildings. No walls, no gate, no shops. Living here are a few Deadcat Fishermen and one unique character — the Suspicious Settler — along with his two pets, the Beloved Goat and the Settler's Pup.

Talk to him and he starts by begging you not to attack. If you do not, he tells you how bandits raided his home. If you offer him protection, he sells you his fish. That is the only trade in the village.

You can also choose to attack. If you do, the two pets rush to defend him, while the nearby fishermen do not fight back — they shout "SURRENDER!" while carrying his body away.

NoteHostile choices toward this settler cost United Cities relations — robbing him is -3, attacking him is -5. This is not United Cities land, and the game never explains why, but the numbers are real.

The western village

Further west sits the second Gatherer Village. A few Deadcat Fishermen survive here too, but they took the opposite approach: the whole village is fenced in, with a locked Makeshift gate as the only way through.

Inside there are just two residential buildings and that gate. Outside the walls, Fogmen and Holy Nation Outlaws patrol back and forth.

The contrast between the two is blunt: the eastern village left itself open and is regularly swarmed; the western village shut itself in and is still standing.

What it means for the player

A Gatherer Village is not a supply stop — there is no shop, no bar, no bed for sale. Its value is threefold:

  1. A conversation that actually pays. The Suspicious Settler is one of the few characters in the game who rewards you for not swinging. Offer protection and you get to buy his fish.
  2. Two unique pets. The Beloved Goat and the Settler's Pup appear nowhere else.
  3. A working sample of what Dreg is like. One village open, one shut, with the consequences of each sitting side by side.
TipThe main threat in this area is the Fogmen. If you plan to operate nearby, it is worth watching one full patrol cycle outside the western village's wall before committing.
