Settler's PupReport
English:Settler's Pup · Creatures
One of the two pets kept by the Suspicious Settler, a clear notch stronger than an ordinary bonedog — and the only animal in the game with no death item at all, so bandits who drag it off to butcher get nothing.
The Settler's Pup is one of two unique pets kept by the Suspicious Settler, the other being his Beloved Goat. They live in the Gatherer Villages west of Mongrel, which belong to the Deadcat faction.
Two ways to meet it
Talk to the Settler and he begins by begging you not to attack. If you do not, he tells you how his home was raided by bandits, and if you offer him protection he will sell you his fish.
The other path is to attack him. Attacking the Settler brings his pets to his defence, and the Settler's Pup is one of them. Nearby fishermen will not join the fight, but they will run off shouting "SURRENDER!" while carrying his body away.
Hostile choices in the dialogue cost United Cities relations — robbing him is -3, attacking him is -5. The game never explains why it is the United Cities that cares.
Tougher than a standard bonedog
Its base stats sit 5 points above an ordinary Bonedog, with combat stats of 25 and a lifespan of 40. It also has a unique set of scale minimum and maximum values, which give it 214 health in its body parts at age 1.1 — 34 more than a normal bonedog of the same age.
The only animal with no death item
The Settler's Pup is worth noting for one mechanical oddity: it is the only animal in the game that spawns with no death item. That means it cannot die from being butchered. Bandits will still try to butcher it, but the attempt produces nothing at all.
